95 3.0mv6 cluster and other el. prob
« on: 06 January 2012, 18:58:42 »

Hi

Some weeks ago, my cluster lost all function. No warning lights when ignition in ON possition, no gaz gauges or temp, rev counter on zero, and the speedo needle is stuck on 40 km/t (actual speed when this happend)

No power windows, no sunroof, no driving lights. Car runs just like before! If the car is running, and lightswitch is in possition for park or ON, and I open the drivers door, the alarm for forgetting lights on when ignition is OFF (or key removed) is activated!

I've tried this:
-removed and put back cluster
-checked all fuses
-checked earth point behind fusebox and around battery

Can it be something with the el. part behind the keylock? I've took it apart and put it back togheter, but with no luck..

Do this things have a common point of powersupply?

Sorry for my bad English :) Hope you figure out what I mean :)

what year is your vehicle.

looking at the wiring diagram there are a few changes. there is a fuse box in the engine bay according to the wiring diagram with some 80a fuses.

Engine starts and run perfect! Found 3 broken lanes on the plastic printboard behind the cluster. No 1-3 from bottom right hand side, clusters backside towards me.. Seems like the lane only give power to some warning lighs, but also common earth to other functions maybe?

But the wierd thing is that the power windows and the sunroof is not working, neither the automatic daytime running lighs.. And that the alarm is going off if you open the driver door with lights on like you have forgot lights on and leaving the car with the key in youre hand? And this when the car is running!

And I have to turn on the radio manually, and it turns off in an hour.. Just like the ignition isn't in ON possition! But why does the car start? I'm all out of ideas now, and consider to wreck the car, or sell it in pices.. :(

I'm not sure, can it do that? Could not see any bad connections or anything that would show signs of bad connection elswhere.. Will try to replace the cluster when I find a used one, but these MV6 isn't everyday you see here in Norway. Will it fit from a 2.5TD? I know a wrecked one standing near my home :)

anything is possible, totally different car to one in question but as a pointer to how things work, a  landrover discovery if the body to engine earth strap breaks it earths through handbrake cable and welds the inner to outer effectivly sticking breaks on

have you checked the fuse board, there is a main live wire and aboard that spread it to the rest of the fuse and relays. if somthing has gone wrong with a unit etc and the wrong fuse was in it may have blown the board and not the fuse also would burn out (over heat) other boards on its way. find the live wire think its a brown thick wire and check with a meter on one of the fuse's for resistance should be none with ignishion on. if it has gone should be able to fix it.

Radio symptoms got me thinking: Check the voltages at the ignition switch also -

Common fault on Corsa and Astra is for one of the positions on the ignition switch to burn/wear out, and only real symptoms are loss of radio supply voltage and alarm playing silly buggers. Not sure if this applies to the Omega, but being Vx, wouldn`t rule it out.

Oh no it isn't. Brown is 0v / Earth - so please check before taking (& giving) incorrect advice. The Haynes manual has the wiring diagrams - and for a '95 model then use the "early" set of diagrams as opposed to the later ones.

Phew ............

Thanx freecall666!

I didn't find something wrong, but today I wired up a direct + wire to the water sirculation pump (I noticed that I didn't get any heat inside the car, but the radiator fans starts up when engine is warm) and voila, everything worked as normal?! So I just connected a wire from parking light wire to sirculation pump temporary (so I know how much gogojuice I've got and some heat to my cold feet) :-p

Now, where do I start to look for a bad connection?
