The distance does not really bother me being fair, I actually would like the Scotland Meet Broocie thought about sorting in the Scout Hut ........
But the Lakes Site we have used the last two years for me has a  few issues....

The owners badger me for their money... Which is most annoying.......
The Pitches are not all level and so some have to sleep on the bank.
The toilets/showers are rather Primitive.
Oh.. and the Midges would make a Vicar swear.

Yeah, distance isn't the issue for me TBH. I can't really comment on the facilities at the Lakes as we were in a static, but I understand about the pitches and I know you had "issues" with the owners ::)

And, of course, he wasn't exactly sympathetic when he cut your lead ::) (not that we were either :D)

At the end of the day, if whoever organises it is going to be pestered constantly by the owner, it won't be an enjoyable weekend for them.

Things could be better or worse at another camp site, on that score, TBH.

What about getting people to pay up front or on arrival? or pay the bloke yourself and he can try and pester all of us. ;D Is there a way to mitigate this, I wonder?

To be honest I have tried to collect the money off people when they have pitched their tent or caravan... That can be a task in itself :D
Perhaps if everyone paid me as soon as they arrived that may help. We know how much it costs before arriving. If everyone pays me then we don't get a mix up like when people book through me and others booked with the site.... I arrive and Mr owner says "Steve Bailey has arrived and paid." How would I know who that is? most people are known by there forum names........

As KW implies, rather than deposit, how about everyone sends you, Dazzle, a non-returnable full payment for the 2 nights.  Then you have the money to give them as soon as monkey nuts first comes over.

Those that pull out, for whatever reason, will know their money will be put to good use in the OOF Official Meets Beer fund ;D

Last year at the Lakes some of us found a few different things to do, which was great fun and everyone that went had a brilliant time.
We found an indoor rock climbing wall which was not dear at all and such fun...
Then went on a Treasure Hunt with a geocache sat nav owned by Hotel21.

I know its great to work on cars but the change was well appreciated :y

TBH it's nice just to have the time off, and always happy tinkering :y

As KW implies, rather than deposit, how about everyone sends you, Dazzle, a non-returnable full payment for the 2 nights.  Then you have the money to give them as soon as monkey nuts first comes over.

Those that pull out, for whatever reason, will know their money will be put to good use in the OOF Official Meets Beer fund ;D

That would be reasonable, everyone would know exactly where they are then :y

I don't go camping often enough to comment on the facilities, so am more than happy to be guided by better informed others, and have voted accordingly :y
just a suggestion but why dont we have a meet where all you nutters just chill out and relax and dont work your arses off on other peoples motors quite realise its the OOF spirit etc...could not belive what i saw at newent to be honest and please dont get me wrong was very interesting and appreciated the advice given on my owm motor but why not leave that for newent then you wont be restricted so much on what camp site sure we can find some other ways to amuse our selves ::) ::)

Bloody 'ell Paul, everyone would be passed out by 4pm!! ::) ;D
;D ;D ;D corrected that for you Bob :y

What about two meets at Newent?
The only thing then that would not sit right for me is Hotel 21. As we know he attends every meet and is one hell of a trek.
Apparently the East side does not get midges like the west does.
I will have a look at some sites similar height but further across from the Lakes. Not all sites I found want to take groups, plus let them work on cars....

What if we had one here which was a 'big chill' type meet, with the usual September bash being 'as is' (or was!) perhaps?

However, am mindful that it's a fair ol' trek for some, (notably Dear Broocie), and certainly wouldn't want anyone to be/feel ostracised thereby.

Just a (well-intentioned) thought ............  :-\

There must be NO mis-understandings on this very point Great One:
"Everyone pays in full and up front to your goodself BEFORE their pitch is booked/reserved. There will be no refunds given"

All our meets are planned well in advance, and it's the individuals' responsibility to ensure that they are available/intend attending. I'd find it bl**dy annoying if I had to 'chase' someone for their (modest) fees.

Wholly agree with TB's comments regarding this .......... (Rant over) ;)
