just done a paper clip test and got codes 74 and 19. does anybody know what these codes mean.

19 is crank sensor,not sure about 74,was the engine running ?

did test twice. once with engine running and then again without. got same codes both times. is crank sensor important/ need sorting urgently. cant find code 74 either. will go do test again just to make sure. many thanks

cheers mate. have had a look and you are correct. crank sensor and the dreaded air flow sensor. will this mean i need to replace the air flow sensor or can it be cleaned.

Nope, even doing it for the first time you should be able to manage it in 20 mins

74   Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage High and is possibly a rogue code thrown as a result of the failing crank sensor.

Remember that to raise codes the ECU makes assumptions based on the input from all the sensors. So if the crank sensor is reporting slightly lower rpm intermittently (adn possibly not enough to sho on the rev counter) and the MAF is still reporting the correct reading, the ECU will flag both a crank sensor fault and the fact that the MAF seems to be reporting to high a reading.

thanks for all advice. will have to wait till next weekend to fix car as dealers are shut (forgot they shut bank hols). how likely is the crank sensor to just fail. will it wait till next weekend  :-/ :-/ :-/

no way of telling,it could carry on for months or pack up today.probably best not to go too far from home if you can avoid it.remember reading somewhere that TB had one go in the middle of france
