any one know if i can dissconnect diesel heater,ive removed fuse in interior fuse box but it keeps smoking heavily. not good in front of customers(taxi)

Does anyone know how it works?  I was hoping to be able to use one to pre-heat waste cooking oil .

Regarding how it works .... there is a reasonable animation on u tube and a guy taking a D5 apart. ( D5 looks to be similar but higher output) It looks quite straightforward to take apart.

Regarding use as a cooking oil pre heater, I would have thought this a little dangerous. The Eberspacher Hydronic D3W-Z as fitted to the 2.2Dti delivers 3 kw of heat and is basically a small oil fired central heating boiler. It has all the expected components  such a diesel pump, combustion chamber/ heat exchanger, glow plug ignition circuitry, fan.control module and exhaust pipe

Dissipating the generated heat with coolant water makes the thing inherently safe in the event of a problem. Imagine what could occur if  such a system developed a leak similar to  mine?

Andycab. Are you sure it is smoking and not steaming? Mine is currently leaking coolant. It looks like smoke, but because it only operates when v cold  it is very visible ( hot water in cold air0 When working correctly there is little or no smoke/ steam in my experience over many winters

It looks like I have gotten my arse and my elbow well and truely confused here then! Am I right in thinking this heater uses diesel only as a fuel and is designed to heat the engine coolant then? I was hoping I could use this to pre-heat the cooking oil to thin it down during winter months when it is cold.  There are purpose-built units that heat cooking oil via a combination of glow-plugs and a heat exchanger but they are a few quid to buy.  I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and buy one.

It is only a coolant heater to aid with rapid coolant warm up following a cold start in low ambient temperatures.

Having ones ar#e and elbow mixed up sounds as if it could cause some entertainment and embarrassment.  It also opens up unique possibilities!
