Which Signum engine is the best?
« on: 17 January 2012, 21:04:35 »

A member of my family is looking at Signums tomorrow and asked me which engine would be the better more reliable one.

Any one got any experience or advice?

Ive driven a 1.9 Cdti 150bhp which was nice to drive. lots of torque but quite noisy. Nice to drive to be fair if a bit vectra'ish'.

Depends on the miles to be put on it - 12000 pa plus in longish journeys then 1.9 cdti 150 bhp auto would be good. We have manual and only problem there is the dual mass flywheel. You must check for rattles which vary in noise with clutch depression and at idle. Ask about any issues with dmf and if it has been changed and when as they seemed to get on top of this problem with later dmf parts. I have had 2 dmfs in first 3 years but all quiet at present with 25k on latest dmf.

Great car otherwise.

2.8 Turbo is most defiantly the best engine, and it's chain driven  :y

2.2 petrol is a liability if it has been anywhere near cheap petrol, as it kills the fuel pump :-\.

1.9 16v CDTI can have issues with the inlet manifolds, the 120bhp 8v is better in this respect :-\.

That is what they have bought now on an 06 plate, so what do they need to look out for?

2006 - Swirl flaps, EGR needs cleaning every year and listen for knocks from the DMF (pretty much all these were addressed by 2008 although the EGR clean is recommended)

if we are moving off the engine issue then springs have been quite a problem although (touch wood) not for us in 70000 miles and if it appears noisy you might find that the acoustic sump tray has disappeared - usual issues like tyre wear similar to Omega and you will get a droning noise from rear worn tyres which many confuse with wheel bearing faults.
