Fast brake pad delivery required.
« on: 18 January 2012, 19:51:01 »

Hiya fellas, hope you can help.

Currently working long hours in London and the wife's phoned to say the front brakes on her MK3 Mondeo are "grinding". I need a set of front brake pads to be delivered before Saturday (48hrs from buying tonight). Won't even make Hellfrauds in time let alone but their pads.

Not a problem till Saturday, she can use my Mondeo and i can use the Mig. Can anyone recommend a website/company that provides a fast delivery of decent pads (Ferodo, Mintex etc).

Any help much appreciated. :y

http://www.brakes4u.co.uk/ were fast for me last time I used them, not sure if they stock Ferodo or Mintex, though.

Euro Car Parts, next day delivery for £3.95, they stock good pads too, PAGID are an excellent brand, just as good as OEM I've found  :y

I've had similar problems from several of the big factors. Tend to use a local independent place if they aren't too much more expensive as it's a 30+ mile round trip to get parts replaced with the right ones otherwise ::)

This little place I use are great... Give me a discount anyway which normally brings them within a few quid of the bigger places price and never have problems :y

Plus, seem to hold a massive range of stock, especially for older/obscure vehicles :y

I use GM pads. Mainly because they are cheap, and I have to replace them every 4k or so.  They are pretty good, much better than the junk most factors pedal.  Generate an awful lot of dust though - go play in the ice with TC switched on, and mirrors pointing down at the rear wheels ::)

Granted they are cheap, but everyone has their own preferences for different reasons. I prefer (whatever the car) to buy good pads (along with good tyres) from respected brake manufacturers like Mintex, Ferodo etc. Each to their own. :y

Never seen "Genuine GM Brakes" slapped over a Touring or Rally car tho  ;D ;D

I agree, I like need 'good' pads.  Thats precisely why I won't use the Mintex/Ferodo shite as sold by most factors and Hellfrauds (for Ferodo). Tried both those brands on the Omega, I really didn't get on with either (and both were binned within a couple of months), disappointing performance for both.

I find the TC ones have better stopping power, and last longer before fading to the point of not stopping.  They are certainly not a trackday pad, but I need a pad that works when cold as well, so the likes of Red Stuff by EBC are out for me. And any pad that can fire the ABS at 3 digit speeds in the dry on excellent, soft tyres, and Irmscher suspension clearly has enough stopping ability. And can keep doing this about a dozen times in the time it takes to get back to speed before failing.  Admittedly after that sort of abuse, they're utterly spent, and never fully recover enough for my preferences.

Not sure I would see the extra benefit of OE pads to make the cost worthwhile - many say there is better feel from them, but I don't seem to suffer from not knowing the braking threshold with TC pads.

What I will say about TC pads, once they are half worn, they can't take as many big stops in quick succession before fading badly.

Mintex, Ferodo, Pagid, etc. all make some excellent pads. Pagid in particular, IMHO, if you can afford their better pads. They also make bog standard budget pads too, of course. ;)
