My 2001 Omega 2.2L XZ have died on me.

When I tried to start it it fired up for a few seconds and instantly died. After that it will not fire, it cranks and it sounds like it is spinning easily, after a while I can feel the smell of petrol. From that I assume it's getting fuel. There is no hint of trying to fire.

From my code reader I get nothing, no codes at all. I suspect that some sensor has gone bad but it is difficult when you can't get any codes to see which one it is.

So, what can it be? Cranksensor? Camsensor? Ignitionmodule?

hi have you checked the engine bay fuses, if no engine codes maybe another fault. has it been playing up before this.

Usually a 4 pot will start if either the crank or cam sensors have failed, but not both.

Might be worth flooring the accelerator and cranking it.. just in case it's flooded.

I haven't done anything to this yet, I wanted to check with an Opel mechanic I know who have helped me out before.

He said that a crank sensor would definitely give a error code. He proposed the temp-sensor, he have had some experiences were the temp sensor had given this kind of behavior and it didn't show any codes.

Since I can smell petrol when I try to crank and it do some lame tries to fire I was advised to pull the plugs and check if it runs rich during cranking, if so I would need to change the temp-sensor.

My temp gauge stopped working about half a year ago, could this have something to do with this. I know some engines have two different temp sensors, one for the PCM and one for the gauge.


Any opinions on this theory?

When you removed the plugs were there wet with petrol

Try cranking the engine over with the plugs out to get rid of any waste petrol

you thought about checking that the cam belt hasnt snapped, just if turning quickly sounds like little or no compression

I did change the belt just a few months ago and engine turns around with out any bad noise.

I have not yet got it to start, cold weather and other things has been more important.

Anyway I did replace the cranksensor last week but that didn't solve the problem, same situatioin 

I got a tip from an experienced Opel mechanic that said that it could also be the ECU tempsensor so I did remove it today.

I pulled out my Ohm-meter to check the sensor and at room temperature it reads 2.3 kOhm, I don't know it that should be correct.

Does anyone know how much it would read?

i just bought a vectra, same symptoms but it the cam chain rather then belt, it was just flooded and now purrs like a kitten

Wouldn't that give an error code? I mean if there is something wrong with the coilpack.

may be not could be immobiliser         if you got spark and fuel should start
