Gunk under oil filler cap
« on: 20 January 2012, 15:48:44 »

I am looking for an Omega Estate to replace my now expired and much loved Volvo Estate. I have been offered a 2001  2.6 v6 with 80k on clock for £1300. However, there is the aforementioned white/grey emulsion under the oil filler cap. Is this likely to be future head gasket trouble or, as the nice salesman said "owing to the recent low temperatures and the car not having been driven!"
I would be grateful for some advice.
Thanks

sounds about right tbh, they do tend to do that if only been used on short runs.
check the dipstick & condition of the coolant in the header.

check the condition of the dipstick, and also if allowed by the seller take it for a good run see how it turns out.  :y :y

I would start the 2.6 from cold and check the exhaust for burning oil. The 2.6s valve stem oil seals aren't the best

quite normal on v6s to get mayo on the oil filler cap and neck sometimes (due to short trips usually),but as mentioned previously check for mayo on the dipstick. :y
