My ISP
« on: 20 January 2012, 20:28:05 »

I use ADSL for my Interwebby and it didnt really matter which ISP I choose, my max download is 8M due to exchange limitations, in fact it rarely goes above 6M.

The good news is tho, so my ISP informs me, is that, my local exchange has been upgraded and can now achieve speeds of upto 20M.

The even better news is, they are upgrading my service to 20M within the next 5 weeks and will be the same cost  :)

I will wait to see what happens speed wise.....

I can't suss this internet pricing lark and speed.  ???

I was on BT Option 2 at £19+ per month....getting 7.5meg out of the 8 meg possible. (I live almost on top of the Exchange..800 yards max)
I am now on BT Infinity at £18 per month...getting 35 meg out of the 40 max (which you will never get)
So how come !!!!! ???

If you regularly sync/obtain 6 Mbit on standard ADSL, you'll achieve roughly 16 Mbit when your ISP moves you over to the ADSL2/ADSL2+ platform. If you want a more accurate figure, I'll need to know what your current downstream attenuation is to do the math.

You can go right off some people >:( ::) :D
I guess those that have 100 Mbit downstream and 10 Mbit upstream piss you right off then  ;D ;D ;D

However if it hadnt been, i could have ordered a new router from them that would be, for the princely sum of £0.00 + £4.99 delivery.....do you want one?  ;)

I posted a faster speed test result from hossy last year when I had my mobile tethered to the laptop, no wonder you're peed off if that is the best you can get.

Indeed >:( >:( And mobile internet isn't really an option as the mobile signal is weak on all networks where I live too :'(

But I do have the advantage of living in a remote area and it's peaceful ::) :y

Nah, toy routers don't cater for my, somewhat non-standard, needs...

True.....carnt see this router coping with your traffic.
Tho it is a lot better since i did the firmware upgrade on it a few weeks ago.....i seem to have a issue with the built in wifi on my netbook.....it drops speed if its more than a few feet away from the router......i think a usb wifi replacement is on the cards......

The poor ping time is a concern though as that should not be affected by the connection speed (given its single packet), looks like there may be issues greater than just the link.
