Flat Batteries and winscreen misting
« on: 21 January 2012, 15:43:55 »

Hi

Had my 2.5 Tourer estate for 6 years now and its slowly dying of tin worm. I want to transfer the LPG system to another vehicle, which seems likely to be another omega and have a couple of question about niggling issues with my Omega over the years and wondered if they are perculiar to my vehicle or Omegas in general:

1: Battery goes flat if left standing for more than about a week. I have fitted a solar charger onto the battery but this only delays the time before the battery goes flat, does not prevent it. New battery has been fitted and the car has always been like this but has become more noticalble recently due to a change of job meaning the car is not used much during the week.

2: Windscreen misting up in wet weather when car is standing. If I go out somewhere and leave the car for about an hour or more the inside of the windscreen and sometimes the whole car  will be misted up and take a while to clear. Car is not damp and carpets etc are all dry so no apparent water leaks. Can have happened when I go to the car to go out. Car is parked on driveway and not under cover.

If I transfer the gas system the car will become scrap so will be broken for spare.

Any thoughts gentlemen?

Apparently common drains on the battery are the boot light and the powersounder. I no longer have these on my cars so the battery is a little better. Check and clean the battery terminals and earth wires for that matter and make sure there is a good contact. Also, your alternator might have low output due to corroded contact. I'm just about to refurbish mine.

If yours is a facelift, apparently these need the activated charcoal pollen filters, not just the normal ones. i had a normal one in mine for a while. But now have charcoal. There is supposed to be a vent in the storgae hole in the boot where the first aid kit goes which helps with ventilation and stops it misting up. Keep this clear of stuff. You can reset the flaps on the climate control by turning the ignition key one click forward, then pressing auto and off (IIRC) for 10 or so seconds. Dirty windows will mist up more easily.

This is the guide for the alternator, I'm fitting new bearings aswell.
