Off to France? Well did you know...

...that, from this Spring, you will need to carry a disposable breathalyser if you plan to drive there.

I'm a veritable mine of information.  ;)

Plus
On 3 January 2012 the French government issued a new law that effectively bans all systems that are able to provide warnings of safety cameras (aka speed cameras). This law includes all sat nav based systems. With immediate effect it has become illegal for anyone travelling in France to have any speed camera warnings on any device across the entire territory of France.

Agreed!  When I left there in  2003 the police were still not enforcing the new lower drink drive limit which is similar to ours but for ages it had been 3 times higher.

If the police thought you were a bit sozzled they would tell you to park your car and get a taxi ::)

Mark, you don't understand the French approach to rules.

They either:  argue like hel,l up to and including full on national strikes, so that the rule doesn't happen

or: agree to anything with a shrug and a lot of muttering, and then ignore it completely.

There are no half measures between these approaches, and you could never predict which one they're going to take.

the transfer coach i recently boarded from Turin to the french alps had a breathalyzer built in to the dash of the coach.
The driver before setting off  had to blow into the device. Whether it was linked to the vehicle system i dont know. Recent-ish accidents involving national express seemsto indicate this is not a bad idea.

Yes mate, if the system detects any booze in your breath it will not allow you to start the coach/vehicle. Very good idea imo

They clearly haven't realised that not every nationality sees every meal as an excuse to get wasted on cheap plonk. ;)

We can be sure that there rules will only be applied to British drivers, of course. ::)

As Al Murray would say

"“A beer for the gentlemen, and a wine or fruit-based drink for the ladies. Those are the rules. Where would we be if we didn’t have any rules? France. Where would we be if we had too many rules? Germany.”
