My cam belt etc was replaced about 15K miles ago, but when I start there is a screeching sound for about 20secs, sounds like from the cambelt area. I have an oil leak from I think the front camshaft seals, is it poss that the oil has washed the lubricant out of the pulleys and they are running dry ?.

sounds more like the aux belt slipping on the alternator pulley. tensioner fault of some kind.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that, I'll try with the aux belt off to check. Mind you it sounded as if it was from the cambelt area

stick a long extension bar from socket set or screwdriver  down onto tensioner pulley centre bolt, if it is tensioner pulley bearing youll hear it singing away up through the bar, hope this helps    adey

or you could pop the aux belt off - start up, if you don't get any noise then you know it is aux belt related

next move is to look at the tensioner pulley - the bearing dries out.  try the test as previous poster or just pop it off and regrease anyway!

Thanks Guys, I'll try these ideas at the weekend.

Gonna be busy, I want to replace the camshaft seals, timing belt and components, cam cover gaskets, and dry out the plugs, from their oil bath. Oh yes and work out the screech.

Does it ever stop ?.
