Bad Rust On My 1996 Omega
« on: 28 January 2012, 11:39:14 »

Hi got some real bad rust on the doors of my Miggy and wondering if any of you body workers could advise on killing rust.
Also if anyone in Northern Ireland knows somewhere I could maybe get newer doors, paint code is Z282.
Also are doors off a facelift exactly the same as a pre-facelift, mounting holes for door panels in exact same places etc.

Thanks for any help.

Facelift doors are same, obviously you need to swap doorcards and wiring loom over.

Strips are a problem, and prefacelift door strips are a pig to remove without damage.

You could use kurust or something similar, but rust is rust- it will always come back.  Im in the bodywork trade and did my father in laws omega (which is now mine)  it has been about 3 years and its just starting to come back through.

If I got 3 years I would be happy  :)
The cars not worth the price of a body shop doing the work so was going to just take a panel on myself and see how it goes.
Was going to use Kurust just wanted to check first.

Thanks

To be honest the easieast way to sort it is to change the doors.
Bide your time and keep asking and sooner or later doors of the right colour will turn up!

Might be a reason to come to a meet over here to change them! ;D

I found Kurust very good for the small blister under my wheel arch. Have a look through here if it helps ;)
