Green Goo - cam caps?
« on: 24 October 2006, 09:29:56 »

Apologies if wrong part of forum etc

But can someone tell me what the green goo is that is applied to the front cam caps on a V6 please?

Not too sure of the reaction at my local car parts shop if I ask for green goo.

Thanks.

I've been told that as well as RVX (i think thats the name for the black silicone sealer) I need some green goo for front cam caps

Anyone?

The green goo means pukka Vx sealant which is almost luminous green in colour. I used it for my cam covers and it seems to have worked fine.

There are non-Vx sealants out there, but none quite so green. ;)

If you look at the camshaft ID page the part number is listed and how to apply it (dont put to much on, its only a thin smear required or you will block off the oil ways):

On all cam covers I've done before (no vauxhalls though) I've just used RVX throughout, whether cars or bikes.

So do I need both on an omega?

Can I have a blonde idoit guide to what sealent where please.

Dont take any chances with the cam caps....the green goo is hydroscopic and only sets when there is no air present, it also squashes down very well. You dont want the caps sitting high and you dont want to much goo or it will block the oil way.

Well I'll be using it on mine in a couple of days ;)

Can't see there being any issues, as it's pressure resistant, none hardening, oil proof, high temp formula upto 400C, remains flexible ensuring 100% seal.
