I agree with cem, they are house pets, not feral/wild cats. They would have torn the rat a new hole if they where hungry. That said a cornered rat is something of wild creature itself. And it has been known for a cornered rat to attack humans.

That wee rat wouldn't have stood a chance with these boys;

Bertram (on the outside) was very much an outdoor cat.  He came to me in a bad way with suppurating wounds all over his body.  I nursed him back to health and we got on very well subsequently - but he always preferred being outdoors - although he was happy enough to stay in a bed I made for him in the woodshed.

He was Mercury himself, giving even the squirrels a run for their money but sadly he went off one day never to return.




The Puffball (again on the outside) was a real bad-ass cat - another causal visitor who became semi-permanent, he was a 6 cylinder outdoor cat if ever there was one.

Always cautious and watching, he displayed a speed greater of that seen in Bertram and, even though he would let me approach him and even brush his coat on the odd occasion, it was plain to see that he was always uneasy in the company of humans.

He, again, went of one day and never returned.

I estimate most of them were male.. our males also have the same faith, one day they go and never come back again..
 
they follow and run after females until their death.. I think most of them are effected by kidney stones, as they never let you check them.. and its not easy..

one of ours will catch moles, waiting for them to surface,
last week we got half (the rear half with tail) of a squirrel,
rats are fair game too.

one isnt to bright tho. he was watching the birds on the feeder, stalked up and was suprised they flew off, he sat there for 15 mins, no birds

as he wandered off the birds came back,
stalked back no birds,

repeat about 4 times until I staopped watching.

Not 'supposed' to be available to 'joe public' as how potent it is, its the strongest poison available .....but searchy on t'interweb enough and you can get 3kg of the stuff for about £32

Miss Vamps cat would certainly have dispatched that rat, or brought it into the house and lost it Not rats, but we never had mice till we got a cat.....

My cat ('Peanuts', female ginger tabby - no pictures, t'was the days long before digital cameras) used to bring us presents occasionally. Plus as Vamps says, the occasional one that's still alive and has you ferreting about behind the freezer trying to catch said still living vermin after the cat has lost interest..

She also managed to hook a fully grown Wood Pigeon in onto our balcony in Germany - she was just a kitten at the time and looked very confused once she'd done it as the bird turned out to be quite a bit bigger than she was ..

I really should get another cat, I miss having a furball.

Cats don't bring you dead things as presents. It's a warning as to what will happen if you displease the little monster.
