Is it me?
« on: 02 February 2012, 09:50:26 »

..or does this happen to anyone else?

I seem to come accross an awful lot of drivers, that when turning left out of a side road, only look to the right, scary when your in the middle of the road passing parked cars.

Then there's the other sort of idiot, that only looks left when turning right, less in numbers, but even more scary >:(

Yes I have come accross one or two of them aswel. Mainly coming out of a car park opposite where I work, narrow road and they have to back off because the road is so narrow. It is fun to watch. In some of there defence it is down to inconsiderate parking by vans, people movers and 4x4s as people cannot see through them like you can a normal car.

Yes, brand new cars whose indicators don't work, I'd take them back and complain ::)

That is something that I really cannot comprehend, plain common sense dictates that any potential danger will be coming at you from the right when exiting a side road so I always look right first.

If there is nothing behind me and no peds waiting to cross where I intend to turn then more often than not I can't be bothered to indicate either, but that is because I don't see the point when there is nobody around to notify what my intentions are.
On the flip side, it is a bad habit because I do sometimes forget to indicate when there is a need to.

None of us are perfect by any means, but I do agree that the general standard of driving has definately declined in the last 25 years.

Hasn't that become extinct, though? ::)

We'll let you off, as you're a BMW driver. ;)

You're right , though. Never before has there been such a need to drive defensively. Always some idiot whose journey is clearly so much more important than everybody else's, that the seas of traffic will simply part for them. Been caught out a couple of times myself where I've let my defences drop momentarily. Can't let that happen on today's roads. :(

Right, Left and Right again  is the way I was taught and it is second nature to me. :y

Some people just pull out when turning right. This happens to me nearly every morning when returning from my dog walk at one particular spot. I always slow down now but often have to brake hard because some muppet (taking the kids to school ::)) hasn't re checked right again and just pulled out into the major road right in front of me. >:( >:(

While we're on the subject people nowadays don't seem to know how to use a roundabout properly and the priority of giving way to the right. There is a three exit roundabout nearby, and the number of times I approach with all three lanes dithering about is on the increase >:(
That is better than them all going onto the roundabout at the same time I suppose ;D

Actually, I think the rule is to give way to traffic already on the roundabout.  There is a subtle difference...

I'd say the decline has become a lot more pronounced more recently than that - say the last 5-10 years..

That's how i believe it is.......and it really annoy's me and sometimes i nearly stop, to point out to the driver that thinks i should have given way to them, when i have beaten them accross the entrance to the mini roundabout, they drive to the right of the white circle on the roundabout (they are actually now driving around the roundabout the wrong way) and then sound their horn at me  >:(  But then i think whats the point trying to explain to a creten  >:(

What about the oppswits that look(sometimes both ways), pull out, decide to stop in the middle of the road and then look at you in terror as if they really hadn't noticed 6 tonnes of truck bearing down on them? When if they had  finished their manouver everyone would have been safe.

Or the idiots who trundle down a motorway sliproad at 20mph, get to the end, flash the indicator and just pull out? They normally then accelerate to mach3 and move into the outside lane for the next 300 miles.

Any moron who decides that going down the side of an artic or bus that's turning deserves whatever they get.

Let's throw in cyclist's for good measure, who totally ignore the highway code, blame motorists for their errors, and aren't insured >:( >:(
