hi guys thanks for the replies
its not that i cant do the job its just that my disability wont let me motor eng used to be my life
iwas wondering if sombody could help me do it vx says that its not the oil cooler just the copper washers that are leaking on the oil feed pipes but they want £400 to do the job i cant afford that on disability pay

it took me 4 days to do the cam cover gaskets which were not leaking doh!!!

If you have mayo in the coollant then the cooler itself is leaking. If the pipes were leaking the only symptoms would be a small loss of oil from the sump and oil would probably appear to be leaking from the front or rear of the engine, which could be traced back up to the V. The only way to diagnose it would be to take the plenum and manifold of and see it leaking from the pipes. Have Vauxhall done this?
Changing the cooler isnt too bad a job.Its the constant flushing for (up to weeks afterweards that is the major headache.
Actually - lets start from the beginning. What are your symptoms or signs that have led to the oil cooler replacement question ?

 hi albs
they had the car today for 3 hours and said that the pipes were proberly leaking and the washers were favourite
ive got oil running down the oil pipes at the back of the engine
i dont think they had the top of the engine off if the had why dident they replace the washers
it was the most expencive engine wash ive ever had

My money would probably be on cam cover gaskets tbh. Afaik the pipes/washers arent known to leak out of the blue without being disturbed. :-\
If it is the washers need replacing, its an easy enough job to do.Shouldnt take more than a couple of hours start to finish.And the cost of parts will be quite a lot less than a fiver. :y

 i hope it is the washers  the camcover gaskets arent leaking i did them 3 weeks ago and they are good and dry i used gen vx parts and silicone i will have to take it off the road for awille and just do it when i am fit enough  and get hospital cars for my dyalisis and appointments it will get done and done properly using vx parts cheers albs

When you say "used silicon"......thats a bit worrying tbh,unless Ive misunderstood.Should only use the correct GM sealant,and only small amounts applied in a couple of places (as per the guide). ;)
Need to get the plenum and probably the manifold off and have a look. :y

Btw,£75 for a pressure wash and a quick look,and possibly misdiagnosis is taking the p1ss in a big way imo.If the problem turns out to be a different one to the diagnosis,I would take photos and then go down there, do a bit of banging on the desk and tell them I wanted my money back. ;)

Is it possible that one of the half moons isnt seated properly ? Its quite a common occurence. :-\

Replacing the four washers is easier than the cam covers.

A compitent person would do it in an hour.

 sorry i meant sealant  ive still got to take all the gubbins off the top of the engine to get to the washers on the oilcooler or do you know a short cut  [he says hopefully ;) ;)]

Plenum and manifold off.Undo banjo bolts,replace washers,then try to get the pipes/banjo bolts to line up with the cooler to start them off in the thread.Might be easier to slacken them off a bit down at the other end to make this easier, but you might be lucky and find they screw straight back in.Tighten banjo bolts to 30nm, replace manifold and plenum.
Takes me a couple of hours,bit not surprisingly takes Mr DTM an hour. :D ;D
