Just watched the BBC news this morning about all your snow. As usual very little snow causing lots of problems. About 90% of abandoned or struggling cars were BMW's. Doesn't say much for the car or maybe driver

Yep, Stiffly sprung over-tyred RWD car with a cretin (generally) behind the wheel. Doesn't bode well.

I need 4 new boots shortly and I thought that someone had been messing as all of the online tyre places reckon ours should be shod with 205/60R 15 V's according to the registration number. The actual size is 225/50 ZR 16, but a spot of Googling revealed that the 16" rims were standard fitment to the S variant (which makes a set of 4 ditchfinders a good £300 fitted  )

The neighbour who sold us his Mig also has a 318i which has the 15's as stock, and after having driven that I'd say that the larger boot definately makes a difference for the better. It's not what I'd call a vast difference and it could be nothing more than "placebo" effect as I've not actually pushed either car to their limits, but the larger boots definately boost your confidence factor.

You're definately bang on regarding the suspension (the MIL is proof of how stiff it is  ), but even that doesn't appear to be as harsh as you'd initially think it would be when you are actually moving.

I won't show the missus your cretin comment as she is already pi$$ed with me after I had to explain what the switch labelled ASC does, and how turning it off would actually enable her to get up to the top of our road this morning (you've seen our road before, so you'll know what I mean).

funny that ive just took my bosses bmw estate to bmw for faulty rear indicator they replaced both under warranty as they were crap ha ha ,
ive put snow tyres on it for him and its actualy made it drivable in snow. round here there alot of abandond bmw,s lol, ive spend plenty of time pulling out the tonks im my jeep but ive got proper tyres on that,last winter i even pulled out a porshe cayanne worth 82,000 with the 20 inch rims it was about as much good in the snow as a one leggied horse

BMW will be appalled at this recall notice. Heads will roll. They will want to get to the bottom of who the hell spelt 'Statutory' wrong. 

Just for the record, my indicators work fine.      They have the same courteous person operating them as when I'm in the Omega.

amazing that the beemers had so much trouble.  I have just been reversing a boat trailer, up a slight incline in fresh snow with the miggy.  No worries

Yours probably predates the period when they started going purely for bling as far as tyre specs are concerned. These days they are generally run-flats too, which can't help.
