Nice write up there Dave, some good pointers as well, ie Tweeter position, correct Speaker phasing and my old favorite, RMS, peak, peal to Peak, Max etc, etc. that one nearly always ends in tears.

What peice of music would you take with you to try out a set of speakers and why?

Inetersting to see how they differ from the tracks we use

Cant get enough - Bad company.Volume set at 11 in true spinal tap style.See if I can pop my other eardrum. 
That guide will be invaluable. Particularily to those of us who have little knowledge of the technical side of ICE. It really can be a very confusing subject.

Showing my age now, for me, something from Dire Straights, Funeral for a Friend, Golden Brown and Always find me in the Kitchen at Parties, not because there my favs, but I consider the Tracks to be quiet well mixed at the Studios for there era, the last track I dont actually like, but it was listening to that track on a then new all Mission set up in a Laskys studio that convinced me that from now on my music is going to be played 'Flat' with the right equipment.

Those were the days.

They did a while back, and they were dreadfull at it - not a patch on their home stuff

Agreed, remember some time back got hold of one of their bolt on speaker in Amps for the Car, sounded bloody all-full.

They mainly do speakers now, but I did fall in love with their original 776 and 777 set up, Battery Pre Amp by the way.

Gary Moore - what a sad loss  . His live version of 'Emerald' is immense.
Amy Lee gets my vote too.
There are so many others too Dave, thanks for bringing it up!!!
I guess 'The Trees' by Rush would be up there, with maybe 'The Clansman' by Iron Maiden.

What peice of music would you take with you to try out a set of speakers and why?

Toccata and fugue in D minor for Organ is a favourite "system breaker" of mine. See if there's still any detail in the treble when the 32' pipes are sucking out all the energy they can.

Some violin music, because that sounds terrible on all but the sweetest tweeters. Ditto some female vocals.

Some Pink Floyd, obviously.

.. and whatever else suits my mood.
