I find it frightening and disgraceful tbh. When the state takes control and even knowledge of childrens sexual behaviour away from the childs parents and denies them the right to any knowledge of the subject or involvement whatsoever, I think we as a society are in a very dangerous Orwellian style state. Morality, and right & wrong have no place in todays teaching about sexuality for some reason.Which may be why it is being taken out of the hands of parents. How can they deny parents the right to any knowledge of their own childrens sexual behaviour and then hold them responsible for childrens behaviour in other matters. It seems ludicrous to me.
The arguments in favour dont hold water imo.In the last 50 years or so there has been a succession of steps taken to apparently reduce unwanted and underage pregnancies - the process started with the pill being freely available to married women, which over the years has "progressed" to pretty much any female of any age can have it and any other form of contraception without even visiting a doctors surgery or a chemist shop. Its brought into schools and given to them as a matter of right.
Abortion was legalised in the 60,s in order to put back street abortion clinics out of business and to save a small number of women from suffering the horrors of an agonising death when they went wrong. Now there are many hundreds of thousands of abortions carried out every year in NHS hospitals, it seems as though its a last resort form of contraception nowadays.
Despite all these measures to prevent young girls from getting pregnant or giving birth to unwanted babies, the rate of teen pregnancy has not reduced in the slightest, but has absolutely exploded during this time.
So,I can only conclude that all these methods, and the trendy, progressive sex education in schools these days has been a complete and utter failure.
We seem to be very good at throwing the baby out with the bathwater in this country (no pun intended) and making percieved problems a whole lot worse. Imo the sinister sexualisation of our children is the real battle to be fought and fought with every weapon available.

on topics like this and many others i think back to when i was younger all those years ago listening to the words of old people saying things like

nowadays things are so easy for youngsters,  you would never have gotten away with that, its a disgrace etc

I wonder if we who are becoming the older generation feel as sadened, outraged etc as they did or has the situation accelrated from what was thought to be  steady progression when i was young

Sex under the age of 16 is illegal full stop. Yes they all do it but but by giving 13 year old girls contraception, despite medical ethics how can it be legal to do so? Yes none of us want any more teenage pregnancies but i'd like to know where the law stands on this.

Either it's illegal to do it or the law is contradicting itself by allowing GP's to prescribe it???? ???

AFAIK it's simply prescribed for other reasons, rather than contraception (treatment of painful periods and so on)..

Nope, not any more Aaron. The pill can help with that kind of thing but implants etc. are purely for contraceptive reasons. ;)

Interesting article on the subject by a mother in the Mail a few days ago.

I stand corrected (said the man in orthopaedic shoes)  :y

Afraid to say I'm still all for it, though - but then I'm not a parent, and I'm cynical enough to believe that they're all at it by 13 these days anyway, contraception or not..

If the lads who are doing it with (to) them start getting locked up for 5 years for rape - that might stop it. ;)

Ah yes, but then - assuming you can even lock 13 year olds up - you breed a generation of boys who never finished their school education because they spent half their teenage years behind bars..

Guess what they'll do when they get out? Yup, father illegitimate children and spend the rest of their lives on benefits.. though some would argue a large section of society already does that!
