Another chapter of the motorsport history closed

What can i say, Michael Scumacher retired today, formula 1 will never be as exciting for me. Yet again even after a series of unlucky events he managed to show for the last time that he is the biggest f1 driver in the history of F1. I hope Kimi next year will do well with the glorious red team as i have become atached to the Italian national anthem.

Schumacher in my mind will never achieve the position of 'greatest driver' due to the number of un-sporting incidents over the years and the air of arrogance that he always shows, its a pity because he is a great driver from a behind the wheel perspective but, there is more than that required to be the greatest driver.

It amazes me that somebody in his position can be on his final race in formula one and the vast majority of those watching want to see him drive into the back of a milk float....!

The sport will be different without him but, maybe it will be more interesting when the team with the largest budget are not designing a car for one driver and the main tyre supplier is also doing the same. Plus Ross B is taking a year out and he has played a massive part in his success.

Fortunately yesterday the good fortune he has enjoyed for a large part of his career ran out and the deserved title winner secured his title.

Most disappointing for me was the lack of coverage for the third place man who drove yet another excellent race having qualified badly following a technical fault.

Lets face it, it can't get any less interesting, can it?

There's no question whether Schumacher is a good driver, the results speak for themselves but one of the greatest is debatable. Now Nigel Mansell is my hero a natural talent like Schumacher but without the arrogance. Won the 92 formula 1 title then went over to the US of A and won the Indy car title. What a guy and he's a Brit :y. Do you think I am being a bit biased ::)

Nigel Mansell, Sterling Moss, Senna, Prost, Graham Hill etc etc.......they were never going to win as many races because in them days there were half as many in a season!

Blimey Mark, online at 7.37am :o Is Katherine getting you up nice and early already ;D

Quite agree with your comments above. Schumi has indeed been a phenominal driver during his career and has made some amazing achievements, but you couldn't put him in the same mold as true sporting drivers like Mansell. Let's not forget, Schumi was "cosseted" by a top team dedicated almost entirely to him throughout most of his career and has always had a lot of luck on his side.

Well done to Alonso - a well deserved champion and another great drive from Jenson Button :y I  think we'll be seeing a lot more from Jenson in seasons to come as he just gets better and better.

Fully agree, the sooner Schumacher oppss off the better!!!

Its the money in the team that gave him alot of the wins, if Massa can win a race that easily its got to be the car not the driver!!!!

Hope the door didnt hit him too hard on the arse on the way out  ;D

I thought the best bit was when they were interviewing one of the drivers (think it was Alonso and he didn't realy want to speak) and they asked him 'did you see the Pele presentation to Schumacher earlier'. he replied, 'no, I was having a shit!' to which the interviewer (think it was Martin Brundle) replied 'well at the least the car will be a bit lighter at the start then'....a classic Tv moment!

Exactly how a Pizza delivery boy can become a race winning Formula 1 driver that suddenly did seem a little suspect!  ;)

I really enjoyed this season of F1 - the fight between Alonso and Schuey was great... particularly when his engine blew up in Japan! Also we saw Buttons first victory and several other great drives. He never gets the coverage he deserves though. I'm sure we'll be seeing more podium finishes for the man next season. The car is getting better and his mental drive is becoming stronger.

It was actually Kimi Raikonen, but yes, a hilarious TV moment ;D

"Shithead Schu" was the name given by Mrs TheBoy  ;D

The guy was undoubtedly talented (lately, he's had best car, but in his early Ferrari years when racing against McLaren, he certainly didn't). But in his earlier years was too much of an arrogant git. Personally, I think he has improved on that side of his persoanlity lately, but those earlier incidents (purposely taking out Hill and Villeneurve etc) won't be forgotten...

Well guys,
i disagree with almost all of you ;D.
i believe that schumi is the best driver ever to have been in a racing car. What can i say about the negative bits people remember them instead of the glorious moments but perhaps micheal could have still got the same resault without them. Only thing i wish that was different would be Airton Senna's not having the deadly accident. Imagine how enjoyable it would have been to ahve both of them in action.
Nigel Mansel? Well if williams didn't have the active suspension that was banned at the end things would have been very different for him as he is as good as everybody else. About Graham Hill and Sterling Moss sorry but i'm too young to express an opinion about them.

P.S. Media should have given more importance to Button's battle as he gave a brilliant performance. He deserved more attention.
