Stalling
« on: 08 February 2012, 16:42:40 »

Hi guys i've fixed my misfire but the stalling has returned as i thought it might, but different to before.  It hasn't stalled while slowing down like it has before but when it's idling it's ok for about 5-10 seconds @ about 550rpm, then it suddenly drops to about 2-300 rpm, catches itself and goes back up to 550/600, repeats a few times then stalls.  Any ideas, i cleaned the icv a few weeks ago, could it be time for a new one?  Thanks , Dan

I fixed the misfire thanks to you Robert!  Thanks for the ECU, that was the problem.  It's not that smooth but i know the ecu learns as it goes so hopefully it will 'learn' my car and driving style and get getter over time, it's hardly noticeable so i'm not worried.  :y

I did spray a fine mist of air filter oil in after but i didn't think it would want too much so i did only 'mist' it.

If the idle is normally rock solid, I'd say have another go at ICV.

After cleaning, I put in 2 drops of 3-in-1.

I thought Omega ECUs were well known for being utterly, totally reliable?

Well not mine!  Some of the pins had corroded and had sort of bridged between each other, maybe shorting out or something, i tried cleaning it but no use so i just put the new one on, courtesy of lincs robert - top bloke!

Fair enough; very hard to make a piece of electronics that is so bomb-proof that it'll still work after the environment has been allowed to attack the connector(s) that interface it with the outside world. Would have thought that connector/connection was quite weatherproof when mated though, and it's all inside a plastic box too.  :o

Do you happen to know if the car has lived by the seaside all its life?

Not as far as i know, my girlfriends dad had it before me and he's not ever been by the sea, he must of had it 10 years!
He looked after it VERY well too! Oil changes like twice a year, changing everything well before scheduled time etc, always genuine parts even had an engine re-build at about 85000.  No signs of water or anything in the box so it's a mystery  ???
