150mph/160mph clocks...
« on: 09 February 2012, 02:09:48 »

Hi all is this correct...

on my 1999 Vreg ex police mv6 i have 150mph clocks fitted...

but from memory my 2.5 manual 94M & 3.0 auto elite 95N reg cars had 160mph clocks...

i also viewed the dash in a 98S reg elite 3.0 auto and that also had 160mph clocks...
& a 2.016v has a 140mph clocks...

why is mine different....

Probably due to calibrated speedo. 100% accurate which is why it only.needs to go to 150.

Calibrated speedos were only 150MPH.

I wouldn't describe them as 100% accurate either. Calibrated means that they were verified to meet a certain spec. when new, with the tyres which were then on the vehicle. The spec might, for example, have been +/- 5%.

My opinion is that they just don't deliberately over-read like the retail speedos.

i have noticed that the speedo is smack on!! well on the original 205 65 15s that police had her sent out with...

on 3 satnavs (1been a road angel) all 3 inc speedo all correct at 30 40 50 60 70 etc

im now running 17s on 245 40 17 all round & did the same test... but now speedo is 1mph out at 30mph (29) & 2mph out at 60 (58)
about 3mph at 90 but doesnt seem to be any more than 4mph out all the way up to end of clock but still not quite on limiter at the *50mph mark... (navs say *46mph havent hit limiter in 5th yet keep runnng out of road..

so what is top wack for a 3.0 MV6 on Manual 2.5 wide ratio Gbox with a 3.9 diff??
& before i get comment after comment saying speeding wrong etc etc (i know) 90% of the time im crusing at 65mph on motorway & 55 on Aroads mainly to save fuel & 30 dead in built up areas! & blast runs are done on clear dry M roads at 2am...

on my dashclocks i do have the calibration sticker from nottingham, so was it only the police car that had the 150 clocks???

Remember the power doesn't peak at the limiter, it's dropping off fast by then.

The V6 peaks at about 6K RPM, so, ideally, would be geared to reach 6k RPM just where power equals losses due to rolling resistance plus drag, assuming they were gearing it for maximum speed.

This will probably tell you everything you need to know about gearing: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90497.0

umm interesting  ??? i was wondering why 3rd & 4th was so long..on the 3.90 but looks like i may need a 3.45  :-\ for motorway crusing
can i fit the lsd into a 3.45 crownwheel?? & what car runs a 3.45 diff??

looks like mine was geared to have max acceleration in 3rd because it does fly from 60-100 & 4th from 60-120 very quickly!  :y

3.45 was fitted to the 2.2DTI.

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90453.0

3.70 was the normal fitment for a 3.0 manual, though.

I imagine you could build a 3.45 LSD by swapping the CW&P over but that would require a rebuild and setting up of the mesh and backlash, which isn't that straightforward.
