I can't help but notice that my beloved rugby seems to be getting a little softer.  Watching the Italian team who, with the exception of their prop, have seemed to play the fairy card to good effect with the ref.  A little knock here and there and they need the magic sponge/spray and then miraculously they have heeled.  The Scottish number 8 last week was the same, screaming like a girl for a little cramp.  Football went this way when I was young hence why I stopped following it and started calling it gayball. 

I really hope this doesn't happen to rugby too.  Any rugby players out there, make sure you pop a man-up pill before you play.

Football is slightly different IMO, in that the way the game is refereed requires a dive or the ref doesn't give the foul. Which just opens the door for all sorts of gayness.

Rugball, looked like cultural differences to me.

Yes they made a meal out of one or two knocks. With names like McClean and Burton can't say it's all down to the Italians.    Good win though

Wigan v Leeds tonight, on Sky - Wigan won, but it was a battle.

Plenty of fisticuffs, plenty of hard-hits.

I've played both codes in my younger years.  I came off the pitch after playing 80mins Union, and could play again.  After playing 80mins at League, I just wanted my bed!

I had the chance of playing pro at League, but took a few bad tackles and did both my knees in.  I've now got no cartilidge in my left knee, and my ACL is still torn in my right (had 6months of work to sort the left, couldn't afford to take any further time off work on zero pay to sort my ACL out on my right).

Have got the cartilidge out my left knee in a clear vial on the mantle-piece to this day!

Trust me - League is a tougher game.  But Union pays more.  I can't call the likes of Chris Ashton, Owen Farrell, and Joel Tomkins for taking the cash that Union offers (after all - who would turn down a huuuge pay increase for a similar job to what they're aleady doing??  ) 

But to this day, I call some now-retired Rugby (League) playing players as friends from when I used to play with them at an Amateur level and made it Pro in League - who I played along-side who turned down Union.  Some regret it, but some dont.  And it's the one's who don't regret it who are the local legends.

But that means sweet FA outside of a small town like ours....

Can't complain really, cos we poached talent from Union for years - Davis, Mr Offiah, et al...

Good man   Who did you used to play for?

I used to play prop for the Hussards de Paris in the 3rd div.  I wad the only brit so you can imagine the attention I used to get from the froggies, needless to say I wasn't nicknamed le Bouchier de Sheffield for nowt and I hurt a lot more of them than hurt me.  I can remember playing with 4 cracked ribs once, it hurt like hell but I couldn't let on otherwise the opposition would have seen it and exploited.

I played rugby in the army [prop] its a mans game not like football, being born in leigh  lancs & now living in oldham its the only game i watch, i went to a football game when i was 10yrs old & walked out at halftime bored out of my head.
