Dad always used to run Bedford TK tippers for his business never learned how to drive a truck myself but travelled a good few miles in the passenger seat of those.

A ubiquitous Bedford TK:

Some routine maintenance tasks on the engine were a trifle awkward due to no tilt cab! >:(

Talking of steam waggons ...

Quite a few come to Welland each year as in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yH7O98UmIk&feature=player_detailpage

ive driven that R.Whites lorry a few times lizzie. little beast it is. 6 pot petrol, crash box. gem of a motor.  :y
lucky to get 25mph out of her though. lol

I'm envious Red Baron! :D :D  With the crash box did you have to double-de-clutch?

I believe my late father-in-law drove those in the army during WW2, and he used to tell me about the crash gear boxes.  When I drove his Humber Hawk I remember always double-de-clutching  as there was no synchromesh.  It was a great skill to learn and I have used it on some old cars, including a Bull Nose Morris. :y

Top: A Sentinel 'Under-type' I believe

Bottom: A Foden Steam Waggon.

Wagons ... when steam-powered ... were 'waggons' ... really! ;)

I knew I could rely on you to identify them Seth! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :y :y

It amazes me just how many TK horse boxes you still see about.

We have a Leyland Constructor 2 lorry plus an ERF tractor unit at the centre, the Leyland still sees use

We used to have our winches at the gliding club mounted on a couple of old ex-army 4wd MKs. I wouldn't fancy going that fast in one of those.  :o  Needed to be a gorilla to turn the steering wheel. ;D

Wasn't much that would stop them in L4, though, including a Leyland National with no air and the brakes locked up when it had to be shifted from the runway pronto. ;D

Still, at least they stayed put when you launched a glider. ;D

Been chatting to a long-time [preservationist] friend whose been on a near 40-year mission to restore this little beauty:

It's a 1939 Leyland Lynx, powered by Leyland's 'Light 6' 4.7-litre indirect injection diesel unit.

New to the War Dept in 1939, an incredibly long working life finally saw it withdrawn from service in 1966!

Bought in a semi-derelict state way back in 1974, this has been a true 'ground up' labour of love and is believed to be the only oil-engined Lynx in a roadworthy condition in the UK.

Just needs the sign-writing sorting now ...  :y :y :y
