A very good friend of mine who does all of my bodywork, does this 'thing' called a smart touch up, basically what you do it, touch it in with paint, so it actually sits higher than the rest of the paint, when dry sand it down to the 'standard' level, polish it, then apply a tiny coat of lacquer and polish it up again. It's something along those methods, it doesn't make it totally invisible, but if you don't know it's there you won't spot it  :y.

At our bodyshop we sometimes use the method it sounds like you're gnna use, touch up the scratch with paint then 2000 grit wet and we use a Machine polisher but T-cut with water and some elbow grease should do it!  Best you'll prob get without painting.  If you load a pic i can see if you might be able to paint it yourself. Where is it?

On the front wing and a few lighter ones on the doors , bloody hard work with TCUT . I was doing one small light scratch and the TCUT didn't seem to cut through the laquer at all  :-\ mind i was doing it by hand , i will load up the worst one so you can see what im up against  :y

filling paint and laquer is easier than digging laquer ;D :y you can take it with 2000 grid also, but I'm not sure for your lacquer thickness so cant advice it. :-\

bad news.. too long, wide and deep (lower part).. not suitable for a newbie hand.. if you try polishing although the upper part
may give some reult , lower part requires deep work which you may end up with a dull paint without laquer..

mask the scratch area and let it sprayed by a professional..
