Very Good Ramps
« on: 16 February 2012, 12:44:34 »

I am after a set of really good car ramps. need to be wide enough to comfortably fit my 17's on them,, and sturdy enough to take the weight of the Omega... and lift it high enough to do jobs like cat removal / gearbox swaps...

Anyone have anything they'd recommend?  :y

It's not the ramps, it's the jack you need. One that will lift the car high enough to place the ramps under the wheels.

With a decent jack, ANY ramps will do.

I have a three tonne Clarke trolley jack from machine-mart, which effortlessly lifts the car :y :y

Ideally James you could do with two sets of ramps to get the whole car level but up in the air, bloody hard work trying to push a gearbox uphill and lift at the same time.

If it has the full range of lift and is full with hydrologic oil it "should" be able to lift high enough. With ramps at the front, that leaves axle stands for the rear. Obviously needs great care that the car doesn't topple off or roll down the ramps etc.

I got a set from Halfrauds.
I've been bounceing omegas up and down them for 5 years without a problem.
A little narrow but do the job  :y

cheers cem. Have done a few autobox changes alone.... Indeed, not much fun. Thankfully in this instance, I can simply let the autobox hit the deck, and lift up the nice light manual one! :y
