TBH Wayne, you have had many offers of help in the past and even been told that what you think are problems are not. The recent water pump squeal which turned out to be the Aux Belt Tensioner (which I and others suggested without even seeing it) being a good example of you panicking and jumping in at the deep end ;)

Whilst the OOF spirit is all about helping people we can't always drop everything and do it straight away ;)

The heater issue: Sounds like it may well be an air lock. It's quite possible that your mechanic decided to disconnect coolant hoses during his work ;) You say you've done a coolant change in the past so I would suggest you bleed the cooling system properly, as you will have done then, and see if it improves. Also, disconnect and plug the vac line to the HBV temporarily to see if you get heat. It's not complicated and you don't have to undo any screws ;) That will prove the HBV faulty or not. I wouldn't be at all surprised if a pattern HBV has gone faulty after 2 years ;)

Okay, my only concern was actually getting to the HBV itself,
Isn't there like remove this, undo that etc etc
So by removing the offending vac pipe from the top of the HBV, I'll get heat?
if I have to leave it off permanently, does this effect the performance of the car in different ways

It's a bit tight but you can get to the vac pipe (the little one on the top) without removing anything ;)

You must block this off though otherwise it will cause running problems.

If doing this gets you heat it means that the vac control on the HBV has failed. It could be the HBV, could be elsewhere but it might get you heat  ;) IIRC the vac pipes from the climate unit come through into the engine bay on the passenger side and run across where your mechanic has been working, so it could be that he's disturbed them accidentally ;)

had to pop out, bearing in mind the heater was running cold earlier, it's been stood for 3 hours
Turnt the heating on and I've now got heat!! lol

I'll be having a go at taking that pipe off the top of the HBV tomorrow hopefully
I've noticed after getting heat, if you press AUTO and OFF to do the climate control Reset
The heat then disappears and your stuck back with cold air again

does that shed anymore light on things?

Wayne - is this the same car you had around 3yrs ago? If so, did you ever sort out the vac issue behind the glovebox we discovered but it was too late in day to start diagnosing?

(If I've got the wrong car or wrong person, my apologies - I see a lot of people, and have a poor memory  :-[)

Thinking back a few years, weren't the symptoms the same then :-\ :-\

The glovebox needs hoiking out and the problem sorting properly if that's the case ;)

But.... See what happens with the vac pipe off and plugged first :y

OK, if its the same car - a gold/light coloured estate, the glovebox needs to come out to diagnose further.

I am more than willing to help with this, but due to my recent accident, am not currently mobile enough to do this for a couple of weeks.

In meantime, pull the vac pipe off the HBV, and bung the vac pipe with a suitable bung.  HBV is in a tight location behind the driver's side bank of cylinders. It looks a bit like Starship Enterprise.
