General Discussion Area / TV Aerial installers? Advice please
« on: 01 December 2008, 18:56:59 »
I am trying to sort the aerial out in my house. When I moved in there was an old UHF aerial, big long thing in the loft which was replaced by a new aerial especially for digital signal.

I first ran a cable out of the loft and straight into my Digibox. Tuned it all in and got great reception on all channels once I had pointed the aerial in the right direction.

But, when I swapped the cable back to the original one and plugged the Digibox into the wall socket - the reception wasn't very good on perhaps half of the channels  :(  I then established that the signal strength must be deteriorating somewhere along the route.

I have got 2 further sockets, in the bedroom and in the kitchen. There must be a splitter somewhere - but where do you think I could find this?

Sorry about the long post  :-[

General Discussion Area / Wheels In Motion - Very Impressed!
« on: 22 November 2008, 15:13:58 »
Having missed the meet at WIM earlier in the year (wishbones and idler needed doing), I got booked in for this morning. Met Tony and got to work on the car, all ok now but a few strange settings to start with.

Front toe was a bit off and steering wheel not straight, front camber was almost bang on vertical so Tony set it to 1deg 1m and the rear wheels were both pointing left in relation to the front (o/side adjuster seized solid - even after plus gassing for a week & heat).

Overall, very pleased and the car drove much better, no more skitting around the road  :D

N/S/F Brake Hose - I knew it was split anyway, new one on order.
Smoke Test failed - Better get the original chip back in methinks  :-[

Fairly pleased TBH, considering were on 180k now.

Has anyone downloaded the BETA and tried it yet?

Have been playing on it this morning and it seems pretty good to me, only problem I have found is no AdBlock (as with FF).

Just thought I would see what opinions are about the match? I would say fairly ordinary to be honest  :(

We may have won but the USA are crap so what have we achieved?  :D

General Discussion Area / Trailer towing advice
« on: 12 May 2008, 11:10:07 »
Hello all,

I'm trying to establish what I can or cannot tow with the Omega. I passed my test in 2001 and am 24 years old. I have only category "B" on my licence.

My questions are:

1. What is the weight of my car? details in sig (I don't have the manual)

2. Can I tow a braked twin-axle trailer of 1500kgs laden weight on my current licence?

Any help would be appreciated.

General Discussion Area / Any knowledgeable BMW owners?
« on: 24 January 2008, 19:56:18 »
Hi guys, my old man is looking at a BMW 523i SE Saloon Manual on a T plate with 106k on the clock. Price is at £2650, but would probably knock a couple of hundred off for cash. He has had a look, clean body and interior - going for a drive tomorrow.

Does this sound about right for the age/mileage? - I have checked parkers and it says £2890 would buy you a "poor" one (taken with a pinch of salt) so it doesnt appear to be too far off the mark...

Are there any common faults we should look out for?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

TIA Platty
