General Car Chat / Y17DTL fault codes
« on: 26 January 2011, 15:39:07 »
I'm after a list of fault codes for my 1700cc Vreg 2000 Astra LS low blow turbo diesel Astra.
I've had the management light on & off over the last few days. The last Astra I had (same car) that did the same showed a fault to do with the EGR .... to long back to remember what code, so I've removed it & cleared the ton of crap from around it.
It threw up codes of 1631, 0725 & 0400. I think 0400 is the EGR code.
TIA  :y  :y

General Car Chat / Astra G INSP
« on: 10 January 2011, 23:28:06 »
I know how to get shut of the display when it thinks it needs servicing, but out of interest, does anyone know what criteria it uses to count down to displaying INSP? SWMBO's Smart counts down from 7000 miles when you reset it, but there is also a time element to it, if it hasn't done 7000 miles in 12 months it'll start counting the days backwards.
Is it possible to 'ask' the Astra where it thinks it's up to? As said, it's only for interest as it doesn't get serviced to Vx's schedule anyway.  ;) ;)

General Car Chat / silicon sealants
« on: 07 January 2011, 00:50:15 »
Been having problems with the oil pressure light flickering on her Smart.
I finally got a round to removing the sump pan today to have a look.
It looks like someone has used a sealant similar to Vx's black by the bucket load. Trouble is, some of it found its way into the oil pick-up tube.

and this lump too

which is probably why the filter was collapsing  under the pump's suction. This has only ben in the car for around 3000 miles.

Hence my previous question re cure times for the grey sealant  ;)

....... what's the curing time on it? Having carefully unpeeled what I thought would be destructions of some kind from around it, it says ....''see relevant service literature etc etc''  :-? I've even found this lot - http://www.ifz-berlin.de/eng_pdf/eng_93165267.pdf but that's not quite what I need.
Is it an overnight job to go off? I think that's what I did when I used on my car  :-/

It's not that bad but .......  ::)
I had a flexy brake pipe at the front of my 'new' Astra picked up at MOT last month so I changed it today. So, while I had the brake bleeding kit set up for that pipe I though I'd bleed the rest as I'd no idea how long the fluid has been in there. Last wheel I sheared the ?*%&ing bleed nipple! >:( Bugger!  8-)
Confusingly the two nipples at the back are different. The driver's side, that I managed to bleed, was 9mm spanner & the one I've broken was 7mm. The OE replacement is also 7mm M6 thread?  :-/
A job now for tomorrow.  :y :y

General Car Chat / car cover
« on: 20 October 2010, 22:10:04 »
The father-in-law has one of these ....... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CITROEN-XSARA-1-6-PICASSO-DESIRE-HDI-Black-/260677456823?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3cb19653b7#ht_1285wt_1139 on Motorbility. So as the weather is beginning to turn he would like a cover to keep the frost off the top half. Does anyone have any recommendations, bearing in mind they are quite a big vehicle? It's too big to go in his garage & leave him enough room to get out too ......

General Car Chat / Astra G ABS
« on: 16 October 2010, 20:29:15 »
So ...... the none runner TD Astra G off eBay was ticking away quite nicely sat on axle stands. My Astra shed sacrificed its fuel pump after it was economically written off in a skirmish with a city banker in a Vectra ::). So, as I was waiting for it warm up, I thought I'd clean up some of the rust from its front discs due to its 6 month lay up. As I was 'driving' it and dragging the brakes the ABS light has now come up, I assume it's due to confusing the ABS ECU by driving the front wheels with the rears stationary. I've tried moving the whole car, but I can only move it 5ft or 6 ft, and disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, but the ABS light is still on  :(.
It might very well fix itself when driven, but due to a lack of MOT, tax or insurance I can't try it.
Any ideas?

General Car Chat / Astra G alarm
« on: 18 October 2010, 18:20:05 »
Continuing on the Astra G theme, while the Cheapo Tech II was connected I was having a trawl though other screen .... as you do ..... and found error codes on the alarm. All error codes erased, but anyone have an idea what 16, 48, 120 & 121 might have been? I can't read Hungarian so no idea what was against each code  ;D

My 'new' Astra has one of Sony's radios finest installed CDX-C 4850R but I want to put a GM radio back in.
How the bloody hell does the Sony unit come out. I've removed the bezel from around the front edge, I have a pair of radio removal keys - no idea whether they are the correct kind - but  having had a dig around at the left & right hand sides I can't find anything that might allow me to pull the bugger out.
Before I remove it with a hammer & chisel, can anyone shed any light on what might be at the side that I'm trying to get hold of?
Searching for 'Sony removal keys' shows all sorts of size & shape
