Xenon light has gone to the dark (pink) side
« on: 03 January 2012, 16:55:58 »

It seems that my car want to join the Darth Lorraine Kelly club as one of the xenon lights went pink.  The car must have known it was the MOT today as well as it was okay yesterday (grr)

It starts off white and then turns pink after a few seconds, so is this the bulb or the ballast?

Also where is best to get replacements from?

Pass?!?

Try swapping bulbs over.

If you move the fault - it's the bulb.

If the fault stays put it's something else/ballast.  :y

It's the bulb on its way out. Buy a branded pair to replace them ;) :y

Indeed, classic bulb failure. Probably original. Replace in pairs, you will realise how back the old bulbs had got.

From memory, OE are 4500k.

I got mine from http://www.hids4u.co.uk

About £65 for the pair IIRC.  ;)

Funny you should mention the mistress 'Jenny' as I have made good progress over the last few weeks.  She now has a cabin and a roof and is now waterproof above and below the waterline.  Just leaves the cockpit to fit out and then a decent paint job and she's done.

I tell you what though, bending 9mm marine ply along the grain over the roof structure was a little bit challenging to say the least!  ;D

Although I am actualy doing bits on the Tractor this evening, a bit of fiddling with a nice smooth bush.

I do have a spare genuine brand new HID bulb by the way, no use to me if you want it.

Fitted new bulbs today and break me I am nearly blind they are so bright!  I went for the 6000k in the end and they look good, the light is excellent.  I guess the old ones had really deteriorated and I hadn't noticed  :-[

Reckon the old Silver Bullet could do with some new ones.  I know all Omega headlights, actually virtuall all Vauxhall headlights, are phish poor, but I really did notice it the other day, after driving around in TBE.
