As many of you are aware, a number of challenges have been encountered in the last 72 hours with respect to three of our members.
As an interim measure, these three are currently excluded from partaking in the forum whilst private discussions with all involved and the admins take place.
Once these discussions have concluded, an agreed plan of action will be implemented which will look to resolve the existing challenge and minimise the probability of its occurance in the future.

Lets all bare in mind that the people that run, maintain and oversee this forum do so for no financial reward, In fact I'll wager they have to dip into there own pockets to keep things going, not to mention they also must dedicate an awful lot of there free time.
So as has been said in numerous posts lets all back off and let them sort the the issues that has caused this conflict. Nuff said.

Jimbob has done a great job on the Admin Team over the past 2 or 3 years, with this being the only time we think he made an error of judgement.
Based on that, the plan is to reinstate him as a Moderator, as before. We all make mistakes sometimes.
Its apparent that Moderators cannot be allowed to moderate when it involves somebody very close to them, as it can lead to, perceived or otherwise, inappropriate moderation. Currently, the view is that if you are a member of the Admin Team, you cannot have close family as members. This may change.
As to Darth Loo-Knee, he, sadly decided to leave. I hope he chooses to rejoin. If he does, I personally would be happy to have him back on the Admin Team, but that is my own personal view - we have not fully discussed the scenario, as he is currently not a member.
I apologise for the seemingly slow response. As the Admin Team are all on at different times, in depth discussions do take several days.

As to Darth Loo-Knee, he, sadly decided to leave. I hope he chooses to rejoin.
Its a real shame, he has given a lot to this forum over the past 5 years since its very early days. He brought real character to this place and made it real fun place to be, his departure its a great loss to the forum. From that bright pink t-shirt on the first lakes meet which still gets mentioned today! Not going to be same without him :'(
His post was clearly a well timed digg, at someone who has previously dished out the same one word posts. It just proves that member cannot take what they put out and had to go running to someone with powers.
Having read the offending thread & spoken with Loo-Knee, the action taken against him was completely unjust. I understand why he left, I really hope he changes his mind & returns.

Have to agree with you Mark. It begs the question, "was Daz pushed or did he jump" and it also begs the question "would a temp. ban have been put in place if the "aggrieved" member was not a moderator`s partner" ???.
It`s only my opinion but I fail to see where any "justice" has been done or seen to be done :-\

I agree, Tunnie. Funnily enough, you posted exactly the same text response to one of my posts a year or so back. Although I remember it, it is not because it upset me in the slightest, but I merely made a mental note that Tunnie and political threads don't mix! ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D
I, too, am sad that Darth has left. He did a cracking job on my car last year and he will be missed. :(

I am very sure that the overwhelming majority of members want to see Daz return and soon.Unfortunately I think that might just require the admin team to grow a backbone,as unfortunately it appears that they dont have one between them.
Sad to say that a lot of the respect many members had for the admins has been severely dented this last week,and tonights statement has not helped things in the slightest.

Only my take on it TB and I may be wrong, but was it the "error" that prompted Daz to "hit the button".
If (and only if) that was the reason for Daz`s self-deletion the only way for a totally unbiased conclusion to this sad state of affairs is surely to offer Daz his position & postcount back. If he chooses to decline, so be it

I concur, I also read the oofending posts, and do not see any justice in this at all.. In fact Jimbob went completely over the top comparing this to rape.. >:( >:( >:(

No need to be personal Albs. There were a few options on the table, and that was the majority vote.
Sad to say that a lot of the respect many members had for the admins has been severely dented this last week,and tonights statement has not helped things in the slightest.
I am slightly concerned that some members seemed to have wanted to turn this into a witch hunt. I can't speak for others, but I voted this outcome because since Jimbob joined the team, he has always made good decisions, and always been an asset. In my personal opinion, this had to be taken into account when discussing this recent bad (IMHO) decision to overreact to DLK's post.
DLK isn't entirely innocent, he knew his post would probably cause a reaction. But, again IMHO, the punishment did not fit the crime. I would happily vote him back on the Admin Team. Cannot speak for my colleagues though.

I would like to remind all that we have taken what we feel is appropriate action to:
1) Address the original issue
2) Prevent a conflict of interest occuring in the future
This process has clearly taken a lot of admin and moderator time whilst past posts were reviewed and discussed in great depth and a number of next step options were considered and voted on.
I for one would like to welcome Jimbob back and look forward to his continued excellent support of our community.

If (and only if) that was the reason for Daz`s self-deletion the only way for a totally unbiased conclusion to this sad state of affairs is surely to offer Daz his position & postcount back. If he chooses to decline, so be it
I have preempted that question a few days ago, and it looks a messy task to reassign he to his posts. Manual postcount modifications will likely result in that getting fixed back to an accurate one when we run certain scripts...

3 members were affected so am I missing somthing because after reading right through the posts I can only see the decisions that have affected two members, JimBob and Daz. What happened to the third? I am sure I am not alone in wondering about it and do not wish to draw an incorrect conclusion about it. I still do not know how or why it had to happen :-\
I am well pleased now that is over with and hopefully lessons have been learned about what can happen if care is not taken when posting. Forum back to normal now is it?
I do agree that the circumstances were difficult for JimBob and perhaps had he recognised that he should have stepped aside in this one the results may well have been far nicer for everyone concerned.
I will be seeing the big pink (daft b*gger) this weekend and take him some tinnies to see if i can reel him back in even if only as an ordinary member. As for the meet, his decision on that one will have to be respected.

A ban does not stop people reading threads - same as a guest really - but does prevent participation. Or should do.

as a foreign member I'm not sure I have the right to talk in that subject.. :-\
however, I think I have the excuse to be a relatively old member.. :)
from that long distance I see the problem very different than you including the admins..
first of all, we all make mistakes from time to time.. thats inevitable as we are not robots..
first and most important , we are not in the condition of judging anyone with their behaviours and this is not a court..
a debate/argument/dispute or shooting match occured between members/mods/admins.. so what ?
this happens in every forum nearly everyday on earth.. we dont have to love each other ;D
if we start to ban sides of disputes I'm afraid we will loose many members within short time..
as I said before it could be solved with apologies from both sides in a civil way.. and in case necessary, a face to face talk could solve many things simply.. (but obviously needs some time for the sides to cool down)
so to cut the story short, I wish to see all members back again .. even if the same problem occurs.. :y

I think it would be preferrable if LJay had BANNED!!! In big break off writing next to her name and Jimbob's sig had 'Sorry...sorry..sorry' moving along the bottom of every post.

Actually, as it happens, I don't think it allows you to log off, from what I remember from when I got banned ;D

The software has to maintain the user account in order to service the ban. You are looking for an argument that isn't there ;)

I would like to remind all that we have taken what we feel is appropriate action to:
1) Address the original issue
2) Prevent a conflict of interest occuring in the future
This process has clearly taken a lot of admin and moderator time whilst past posts were reviewed and discussed in great depth and a number of next step options were considered and voted on.
I for one would like to welcome Jimbob back and look forward to his continued excellent support of our community.

from that long distance I see the problem very different than you including the admins..
first of all, we all make mistakes from time to time.. thats inevitable as we are not robots..
first and most important , we are not in the condition of judging anyone with their behaviours and this is not a court..
a debate/argument/dispute or shooting match occured between members/mods/admins.. so what ?
this happens in every forum nearly everyday on earth.. we dont have to love each other ;D
if we start to ban sides of disputes I'm afraid we will loose many members within short time..
as I said before it could be solved with apologies from both sides in a civil way.. and in case necessary, a face to face talk could solve many things simply.. (but obviously needs some time for the sides to cool down)
so to cut the story short, I wish to see all members back again .. even if the same problem occurs.. :y

I mentioned postcounts and the logistics of reinstating his deleted account because somebody asked. Again, I think you are looking for something that isn't there.
I have always, and still do, that DLK has been a brilliant ambassador for the forum.
I doubt he would want to be on the Admin Team again, based on previous discussions. Which is a shame IMHO.
As he had deleted his account, the Admin Team have not really discussed him at any more that a personal level. I would love to see him back here.

I've never commented on any of the threads about whats going on because quite simply its got nothing to do with me. There was a disagreement between two adults both of them I class as friends and I think it quite sad that they are both not on the forum any more. I also couldn't believe the amount of people who decided to have a say, it reminded me of being back at school (that was a long long time ago). I would have been better if they could have spoken privately and tried to sort things out, even if it meant they agree to disagree with each other
Both Daz and Ljay have been on the forum a long time, they also attend the meets and I hope to see them there again in the future.

Quite a dissapointing result all round really. I have met all involved, Jimbob at Chester meets where he happily scanned the silver beast and cleared a load of old faults for me, Ljay was was perfectly pleasant to me, the family and other meet newbs and Daz who went to great lengths to save my cousin a fortune when his engine went pop and he rebuilt one for him. Basically the spirit that sets this forum far apart from the utter balls that most other car ones are!
I think the one issue thats at the root of this is ego and people not wanting to back down and apologise/admit over reaction.
I have worse barnies every sunday in the local and by Monday it's all sorted without big fall outs FFS ::)

Well lets let the dust settle.
It's a shame it was all blown up as big as it was.
As mentioned by others, it would have been great if it could have been settled over a civilised phone call without all the mud slinging that has gone on in public on the forum!
Daz is a great loss to the forum :(, but I feel sure he will still offer help if required. If nothing else he is a bloody good mechanic! :y
Laura was an angel to Jan and I in Newent while we were waiting for the ambulance to arrive, and to be honest anytime we have met several times at meets or at the Lakes meet she has been nothing but very nice!
I think Jimbob did probably what we all would have done if placed in the same situation and probably regrets acting without talking to the other Mods first.
Let's hope this might serve as a warning of what the outcome can be of some of the silliness that ocasionaly appears on the Forum!

But, to all intents and purposes, its no different to being a guest.
According to a resident expert :y , you get a screen that says 'banned' and nothing else but due to some processes, the last online time will be updated. :y

That was on the old forum with the negative post counts but I don't think you can on the new one when banned, trying to PM a banned member gives you a member can't receive pm's message.

Ljay over reacted and lets face it the ladies taken a huge slating looking in a lot of the recent posts, you lot have more history than i do with her but she has always been friendly to me and no one should be openly slated on the forum like that
there are no winners only loosers in this whole affair
it is clear we all want Daz back and i really hope he returns
I agree with admin that unfortunatley for Ljay it is difficult for jimbob to be a moderator all the time she is an active member and its sad she has to give up her membership
I think admin have a difficult and sometimes unrewarding time consuming task as it is without being slated for what is a sensative issue for all concerened
Personally i was going to leave the forum after the recent events something did not feel the same. Not that i am full of self importance.
But no memer is bigger than the forum and its everyone that makes it from the party political broadcasts to the odd wined up that may go wrong. The help and contribution eveyone makes is what keeps it alive.
every post is a contribution good and bad and I for one appreciate that :y

My only concern going forward is that Jimbob must keep his access to OOF admin very secure. If Ljay has been banned and feels aggrieved by it, then can you imagine the damage she could cause if she got into the admin area!! :o

I've never commented on any of the threads about whats going on because quite simply its got nothing to do with me. There was a disagreement between two adults both of them I class as friends and I think it quite sad that they are both not on the forum any more. I also couldn't believe the amount of people who decided to have a say, it reminded me of being back at school (that was a long long time ago). I would have been better if they could have spoken privately and tried to sort things out, even if it meant they agree to disagree with each other
Both Daz and Ljay have been on the forum a long time, they also attend the meets and I hope to see them there again in the future.

Jimbob in my view has and is a well picked Moderator for the Forum. The amount of stuff he has done on the computer side etc is well beyond anything I dream to know about the things.
I was offended yes by being Banned by him. Which put me into a position I did not feel happy being in and so I hit the delete button.
Ljay has been to my house, we have shared personal matters and the odd tear. Although I do believe she is far more chilled in person than online. Maybe Laura was right and this should have been sorted out before now?
Maybe this is a lesson to be learned by us all?
I have done over 5 years on here and it (sad I know) becomes part of your life. I have made some friends that I will stay friends with for years to come. I am aware not everyone will like me, or even think that I should be a Moderator on here... I actually agree myself at times. Yet, I do only want the Best for the Forum however daft that may sound at this moment in time.
It does seem to have taken a bit longer to get this sorted than I personally would have liked, and yet as we all know the Admins/Mods do this in their spare time and it is hard to get them together at the same time.
I am sorry that I was something to do with this upset to the Forum, although I do think it was somnething that needed addressing, hopefully it will not be allowed to go on for so long in future.

I'm sure AA knew it was a bit of fun, and I guessed straight away that they were pulled because there was bound to be at least one complaint from those here (no names, no pack drill ;) ) that are easily offended by seeing the F word in full.

Without wanting to appear to misquote/outcontext TB, but we know GenDiss is expected to go off on a tangent and bear little resemblance to reality so - just once, - any chance we could steer this thread back towards the serious original intent without it degenerating into the normal playground pisstakes and banter? ;D

We have to try to judge the intention of a post, and also the likely reaction to it, if that makes sense...
Without wanting to appear to misquote/outcontext TB, but we know GenDiss is expected to go off on a tangent and bear little resemblance to reality so - just once, - any chance we could steer this thread back towards the serious original intent without it degenerating into the normal playground pisstakes and banter? ;D
The admins were are trying to maintain at least one straigh(ish) path towards a happy conclusion.
With a wee help from the regular suspects contributors, perhaps we can?

I agree with what you say.. :y But, there is always a but, following agreement... :D :D is it not time to close this issue and move on. I see no benefit in continued discussion, it is encouraging equally unpleasant debate on other Internet chat area's, there comes a point where we must draw a line and move on, and I personally think we have reached that point..... :)

I think H21 Admin has acheived this and normal service has ressumed sad that we have lost 1 member but very gratefull it was not 3

Indeed, Its very sad on a personal and OOF level to have lost a (rare female) member who contributed a lot on here, and always attended the meets.
Some of you did not see eye to eye with her over a variety of topics....She had an equal number of good friends on here.
Very sad she has simply been banned and brushed under the carpet, and the resolution is not a happy one imho, esp as she 'only reacted' to being provoked on this occasion.
I know the reasons why this action has been taken, and although may not agree, will stand by the decision made by admin.
No point in further going over old ground. We now need to move on.

Not how I read post #31 in any sense ...
Jimbob has done a great job on the Admin Team over the past 2 or 3 years, with this being the only time we think he made an error of judgement.
Based on that, the plan is to reinstate him as a Moderator, as before. We all make mistakes sometimes.
Its apparent that Moderators cannot be allowed to moderate when it involves somebody very close to them, as it can lead to, perceived or otherwise, inappropriate moderation. Currently, the view is that if you are a member of the Admin Team, you cannot have close family as members. This may change.
As to Darth Loo-Knee, he, sadly decided to leave. I hope he chooses to rejoin. If he does, I personally would be happy to have him back on the Admin Team, but that is my own personal view - we have not fully discussed the scenario, as he is currently not a member.
I apologise for the seemingly slow response. As the Admin Team are all on at different times, in depth discussions do take several days.

I appreciate what you say and feel for the position you are in I only hope in time things move on and any wounds heal
imho i think enough has been said already and its time to draw a line under it all
and for what it worth as much as i like daz i am sad that Ljay is no longer a member and hope in time her return happens even though you do and should continue to moderate
there have been no winners imo only loosers
Daz has made a statement of sorts and so have you lets move on :y

Speaking on a quite personal basis I feel that this subject has now been well covered and relevant points raised have been considered according to their merits, as and however required on a public forum and as such, there is absolutely nothing whatsoever to be gained by continually picking at an old scab. If we do, it will never get a chance to heal.
On that basis and reasoning, now locking this thread and, hopefully, it will be the last on the matter and thus allow all involved to move on as however they wish to the future.
