I have a lovely 2002 MV6 3.2 which is an absolutely brilliant car
Full MOT, lots of tax, sequential LPG.
I put it on an aution website with a reserve of £800. The bidding ended at £650.
Are these things really worth sooo little?
What are the parts worth on these things - enough to make breaking it worthwhile? I suspect it would be worthwhile, once the tax has been claimed back....
-
Sadly it does make financial sense. Wheels, assuming good, non-Chinese tyres, £200 a set easy. £100 for immaculate interior... etc, etc
-
Go on ..... break it! There'll just be my Omega left soon at the rate these cars seem to get broken for parts. ....... ;) ;) ;)
-
I suppose if I do break it, I could keep the LPG kit and fit it to my Jaaaag ::)
-
Whats the next car James? S Type?
-
Tbh James, its just before christmas so people are skint, fuel duty is probably going up and scrap prices are dropping like a stone.
Keep it imho

Appreciate what you say, but not an option I'm afraid. New, low mileage replacement is here, can't afford to have two on the drive space wise, as the Mrs passed her test and is getting a new car this weekend too...
It has to be gone... soon ish, even if I have to take a hit.

Break it :)
-
Sell it to the missus, simples ;D

So, what have you got then James?
-
If you can aford to take a 650 quid hit james, you could always give it to me :)
I'll even pay for my own travel costs down there :D ;D
On a serious note, if thats your situation, break it sadly :)

D'ya need somewhere to store it James?
-
Dont give it away for any less than you want , people know they are getting a bargain ... hold on to it as long as you can . Its sad that breaking these cars has to be an option , in a similar position myself james :(
-
It depends how long you want to sit on the parts, how much storage you have and how many times you want to be messed about by people agreeing a deal and then not even have the decency to let you know they've changed their minds, believe it or not it happens a lot on here ::)

The fact the LPG is not certified will significantly reduce its value.

Agree entirely. Although - LPG overall doesn't really seem to help with car values anymore.. especially not Omega money..

It makes it more desirable. Thus makes it stand out more.

I would list is as a classified ad on ebay at £1,250 and see what offers you get.
I find autotrader very hit and miss, some vehicles sell within hours on there, but more often than not I get no response from there, so I would advise against the £48 for two weeks advert.
Using 'classified ad' you can list it for 28 days at £15.99 with no other fees. That's where I get most success.
If you want, you can leave the vehicle with me and I'd be happy to advertise and deal with the sale on your behalf...and if you try and pay me...there'll be a falling out ;D

If you break, first dibs on LPG tapped inlet manifold :y

Yep. :-X
Worst possible time of year to sell a car. Will do much better from march/April. :y
-
Manual box, fresh mot, years tax, cambelt and full service then bung it back on Egay for £1200. classified :y
Only fresh mot and tax when it sells. :y
Sit on it until it sells :y

I don't think the situation re V5 helps either TBH James. I wouldn't even view a car without a V5 being available. IMHO of course.

Josh, tried to PM you mate, inbox is full :y

Oops, I hadn't noticed...cleared out a bit now :y

Is it a 3.2 one? I think the injectors are different from 3.0? Not that I would be using petrol much, but nice to have correct one :) :y

Manifold is the same, and I'd be keeping the original injectors if it were me.
Happy to drill and tap one, as always. :y

Many thanks yet again Kevin :y
Good point, so I could just swap the injectors over. In day to day use though, does it make that much difference? My 3.2 injectors are 140k old, so depending if 2woody's are newer might just use them. :-\
-
IME injectors rarely give trouble, unless they've been in someone's shed for years. ;)
Hence the recommendation to use the ones that come off the car. Also means you can use a 3.0 manifold as everything bar the injectors and FPR is the same.
-
Cheers Kevin :y
-
I'd stick with the "known" injectors on the car. They are what it has run for the past 140k.....
-
Ive got the same with my persia mv6 thinking I may have to break it if it doesnt sell
