Symptoms are the power steering works at high revs, but at idle it goes to no assist every now and then. Changed the pump but is still doing it. I know what servotronic was like from my Senator, but this goes to completely no assist. Im wonder if the large puddle of about an inch deep i had in the passenger footwell cause of the drain in the scuttle being blocked has caused dampness to get into the relays.

Omega General Help / Re: Abs sensor/speedo
« on: 03 October 2011, 22:14:08 »
no the abs and tc light isnt on. just the abs kicks in early sometimes and the speedo has been hesitant on occasion. Did check the ECU for fault codes with the "My Naff Code Reader", but no faults stored. Was just wondering if it maybe an abs sensor on its way out. Just not bad enough to throw a code.

Hi, is there a particular sensor that gives the speedo its reading or is it an average of all of them. Also which one would it be?

yep check all earths all clean and secure, the battery crimps are good no corrosions. yep i went through the battery and starting diagnosis. Only other thing i have noticed is a rattle on acceleration. thinking maybe possible bearing going in the alternator, only happens when the car gets hot. The alternator will give out 13.9 volts max under load from 2000 rpm or above, at idle only 13.7. This did happen before last year after the car had been on a run. Breakdown assistance got the car started but the alternator light was on almost constantly. changed battery and has been working since but have noticed that the battery was mostly only having around a 12.4 v charge. Seems odd 2 batteries with the same result.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Possible Alternator failing
« on: 11 June 2011, 19:41:35 »
Had the battery go flat yesterday, checked nothing had been left on which there wasnt. Car had been on a 15 miles journey previously so battery should have been fully charged. Recharged the battery and did the test as shown on the forum, battery was around 12.8 volts on its own. Connected to the car was around 12.7 turned a few things on for a few mintures then off battery recovered to around 12.7. Started the car, on idle alternator giving out about 13.7 then under load revs  2000 rpm around 13.9. Checked for any drains on the battery got 0.03 ma so seems nothing is draining. All connection are secure and clean. I have noticed sometimes on occasion its turns over a lil slower and the dash lights seem to have a pulsating about them. Im wondering if when the engine gets hot the alternator is failing intermittantly.

Omega General Help / Re: Gearbox Woes
« on: 14 September 2011, 21:55:39 »
i went to check the fluid level but vauxhall done the bloody plug up so tight it rounded the nut off. Was thinking of getting a nut remover to grip it to undo. Ive also got a spare selector switch i cleaned and regreased, so may give that a try.

Omega General Help / Gearbox Woes
« on: 14 September 2011, 21:12:12 »
My gearbox is jerky between gears, but on occasion is so smooth u dont know its changed. This all started through changing a lambda sensor cause i got the EML  show an error. Ever since changing the revs wouldnt calm down but now have but the gearbox is now jerky most of the time. The only thing that slightly improved it was a change of the Vehicle Speed Sensor. Sent the ECU to The Boy who updated the Firmware. The selector switch does flash other positions but not bad just now and then. The Gearbox  oil and filter were changed by vauxhall. The car has only done 69000 miles and had a fsh. "My Naff Code Reader" shows no errors on Engine or Gearbox.  Just not got a clue what could be causing it.
