Will bear that in mind. If I can resuscitate the old one it'll be good for powering my planned model railway at shows. It's an old battery though, one that isn't even a sealed unit.

Now, another question. I remember seeing on here months ago a post about resetting the windows to the one-touch open-close mode, but the search engine cannot find it. Can anyone either point me to the post or advise the button sequence to reset them? Cheers muchly :y

The Elite lives again  :) :) :). New battery, started first time. I'm going to get a voltmeter after work so I can check all the polarities and currents to make sure it's not draining and the alternator is charging it, but at the moment it looks like the battery after all.

Cheers again guys  :y

No everything was fine on the drive to work, no lights in the dash or any signs the battery not charging. I'm guessing the battery as it wouldn't respond to jump leads. I'll get a new one today and see what happens. I had something very similar happen several years ago on a Neon and that was the battery too.

Thanks for the guide Andy. :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Dead battery
« on: 03 June 2010, 19:03:04 »
Come out from work tonight to find a dead battery (dim warning lights and no action from starter) so taking the battery to be dead. Is there a quick guide on here to putting a new one in so I know which tools I'll need to take on the bus tomorrow? Not changed one myself before.

Zero marks from Tesco Breakdown who seem to have 'forgotten' about my phone call to renew in October, as a result no cover  >:(. Just as well they didn't charge me for it.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CD Changer
« on: 11 November 2009, 21:37:50 »
My CD Changer won't play CD's burned on my PC, probably due to its age (1999), so looking to get one from a facelift. Can you facelift owners play home-made CDs in your changers, and is it a straight swap?

Cheers

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Seized Door Lock

Thanks for that. I eventually managed to free the lock up after a bit of jiggling about so when it stops raining I'll get the door card off and have a peek at the motor and solenoid.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Seized Door Lock
« on: 30 October 2009, 18:23:33 »
My drivers door lock has been playing up for a few days - I thought maybe the solenoid needs greasing or replacing, however tonight the door lock seized completely so I cannot unlock the drivers door to open it, so had to climb across from passenger side to get in and out.  :(

The pin is stuck down and I cannot unlock the drivers door with the fob, key or interior handle (or combination of any) so how do I get the door open to get the card off??   :-?

Is this likely to just be the solenoid or am I looking at a new c/l motor?

Omega General Help / Re: Air con not cold enough
« on: 25 June 2010, 21:46:21 »
I'm with Zulu on this one, or better still get a mobile air-con specialist to come to you and test/vacuum/refill the system. Shouldn't cost any more than Kwik-fitup.

Depends on condition, mileage, Mot & Tax, last cambelt change, etc. etc. You'll also need to post some some pics to help value it.

Omega General Help / Re: radio code

Hold the AS button until you hear a beep, type in the code using buttons 1-4 then hold AS button again until the beep. If the code is correct it'll work.

Omega General Help / Re: Aircon

Have the fans worked at all since you did this work or is this when the fan problem started. May be some disturbed wiring somewhere around the fan switches.

Hmmm, sounds like 2 separate issues to me. Check the wiring to the front fans otherwise sounds like faulty thermostat. What temp is your guage rising to in traffic. Shouldn't really go much higher than 95. The fans should still come on to cool the engine even if the air-con isn't working

Regarding the air-con, the compressor stops operating when gas is low so would recommend you get a proper air-con specialist out. Don't bother with the can-refills - these are no (or not much) cheaper and don't last long. The air-con specialist will also check the air-con system for leaks and vacuum out the pipes. This shouldn't cost much more than £50.

Isn't green the wrong type for the V6 anyway?

Omega General Help / Re: oh god, why now! NO COLD AIR!!
« on: 26 May 2010, 21:59:54 »
I had mine regassed just before our holiday and when driving home last Saturday in the blazing sun the c/c was just right - set at 20'C. Not frostbite cold but just right.

Wayne when you've had your air-con regassed was this done by an air-con technician and did they pressure test it first? To need regassing every year sounds like you might have a leak. Also check your coolant level as too low coolant stops the compresser cutting in.
