Dead battery
« on: 03 June 2010, 19:03:04 »

Come out from work tonight to find a dead battery (dim warning lights and no action from starter) so taking the battery to be dead. Is there a quick guide on here to putting a new one in so I know which tools I'll need to take on the bus tomorrow? Not changed one myself before.

Zero marks from Tesco Breakdown who seem to have 'forgotten' about my phone call to renew in October, as a result no cover  >:(. Just as well they didn't charge me for it.

10mm spanner for the battery terminals. 13 mm socket on an extension long enough to get down the side of the battery to the clamp. BAttery needs to be disconnected within 15 seconds of turning the ignition off, otherwise the alarm will (should  ::)) sound  :y

No everything was fine on the drive to work, no lights in the dash or any signs the battery not charging. I'm guessing the battery as it wouldn't respond to jump leads. I'll get a new one today and see what happens. I had something very similar happen several years ago on a Neon and that was the battery too.

Thanks for the guide Andy. :y

Happened to me to.
Tried 3 different jump leads and 2 other cars to to jump start from.
Was afraid of it being the starter, but the service guys somehow started it and confirmed it was a battery.
Be sure to get the battery with correct fittings - it has a little grip area at the bottom of it ->

The Elite lives again  :) :) :). New battery, started first time. I'm going to get a voltmeter after work so I can check all the polarities and currents to make sure it's not draining and the alternator is charging it, but at the moment it looks like the battery after all.

Cheers again guys  :y

Might be worth slow charging the old battery for a few days then leaving it alone for a few more days before testing, Ive had a few duff ones that came back to life.

Will bear that in mind. If I can resuscitate the old one it'll be good for powering my planned model railway at shows. It's an old battery though, one that isn't even a sealed unit.

Now, another question. I remember seeing on here months ago a post about resetting the windows to the one-touch open-close mode, but the search engine cannot find it. Can anyone either point me to the post or advise the button sequence to reset them? Cheers muchly :y

Hold each button in the 'up' position until you hear the relay click.
