General Car Chat / TFR
« on: 18 January 2014, 22:57:54 »
My brother has managed to spill oil on the carpet of his motor, over 1/2 litre, been mopped up best we can but needs proper cleaning ... Removing carpets is probably not viable so needs to be done in situ ... internet research seems to indicate that diluted non-caustic TFR (Traffic Film Remover) might be the best option......

1. Does anyone agree/disagree strongly with this approach, or offer other ideas ??

2. There seems to be a few hundred different TFRs out there .. anyone any opinions on the best/cheapest/most cost effective ???

3. Any opinions on the most effective dilution rate for cleaning up oil soaked car carpets ??

Any ideas gratefully accepted :)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Double DIN removal tools
« on: 13 January 2014, 17:10:27 »
Numerous sob stories on the forum about the difficulty in removing the double DIN units, mostly seem to involve poor quality removal tools, as I'm going to need some in the near (?) future are there any that should be particularly avoided, or even better, any that are particularly good ???

Interweb just gives a few hundred possibilities, with no indication of quality or ability to actually do the job !!

« on: 17 December 2013, 16:58:04 »
At this time of year I feel it incumbent on me to remind all forum members that the following rules are to be strictly adhered to:

All forum Members planning to dash through the snow in a one horse open sleigh, going over the fields and laughing all the way are advised that a Risk Assessment will be required addressing the safety of an open sleigh for members of the public. This assessment must also consider whether it is appropriate to use only one horse for such a venture, particularly where there are multiple passengers. Please note that permission must also be obtained in writing from landowners before their fields may be entered. To avoid offending those not participating in celebrations, we would request that laughter is moderate only and not loud enough to be considered a noise nuisance.

Benches, stools and orthopedic chairs are now available for collection by any shepherds planning or required to watch their flocks at night. While provision has also been made for remote monitoring of flocks by CCTV cameras from a centrally heated shepherd observation hut, all users of this facility are reminded that an emergency response plan must be submitted to account for known risks to the flocks.

The angel of the Lord is additionally reminded that, prior to shining his/her glory all around, s/he must confirm that all shepherds are wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to account for the harmful effects of UVA, UVB and the overwhelming effects of Glory.

Following last years well-publicised case, everyone is advised that Equal Opportunities legislation prohibits any comment with regard to the redness of any part of Mr R Reindeer. Further to this, exclusion of Mr R Reindeer from reindeer games will be considered discriminatory and disciplinary action will be taken against those found guilty of this offence.

While it is acknowledged that gift bearing is a common practice in various parts of the world, particularly the Orient, everyone is reminded that the bearing of gifts is subject to Hospitality Guidelines and all gifts must be registered. This applies regardless of the individual, even royal personages. It is particularly noted that direct gifts of currency or gold are specifically precluded, while caution is advised regarding other common gifts such as aromatic resins that may evoke allergic reactions.

Finally, in the recent instance of the infant found tucked up in a manger without a crib for a bed, Social Services have been advised and will be arriving shortly.

Merry Christmas from E & Mrs E   :)

General Discussion Area / Insuring a Cat C
« on: 29 November 2013, 18:12:36 »
Long story but Mrs E's clit is now a Cat C write-off repaired motor. Her Insurers have just informed us that they no longer insure Insurance write offs, and are cancelling her insurance in 7 days !!

Spent the last 2 hours on the phone trying to get quotes... you can't use internet comparison sites as there is no "cat C" input on any of them.... so you have to phone potential insurers and ask ...  which is proving a tad frustrating.

Can anyone tell me insurance companies who DEFINITELY - WITHOUT FAIL - insure Cat c write offs ??

Any one driving a cat C .. please .... who are you insured with ??

Pretty please ... with knobs on ??  ... and chocolate sprinkles ???   :'( :'( :'( :'(

Omega General Help / key synch
« on: 06 November 2013, 21:52:12 »
Odd one .. or I'm just going daft .. :)

Changed the battery in the fob as it had been getting poor then stopped working with no LED ...

Went out to car, which was unlocked, so key in, ignition on, press lock .... nothing happened at all .. I expected all locks to pull in ... lock/unlock ... absolutely nowt :( ...  ignition off, remove key , press lock, and they all work, unlock ..... yup... window open, out of car, lock and hold .. yup windows shut correctly....

unlock and back into car, key in, ignition on, press lock .. absolutely nowt !!

So do I have a fault .. or does the "resynch" only work if "synch" is actually lost ??
