Omega General Help / Matrix or not
« on: 28 November 2009, 14:33:14 »
Further to my original post re; "heater pipes". If the matrix is leaking (I`m loosing coolant on a daily basis) what are the signs. I`ve looked for the obvious ie matrix pipes and connections both ends, pulled carpet both footwells, dry. Any ideas please. Still no heat. :-/

Omega General Help / No Heat
« on: 26 November 2009, 14:16:01 »
New HBV fitted, system flushed, no air locks. Can`t get any heat just freezing cold air.Matrix pipes are cold. If I leave engine idling for half hour with climate switched off the temp gauge will only rise to 80 deg max.
Is it the thermostat and if so is it main dealer only :question

Omega General Help / Knocking from rear
« on: 19 April 2009, 11:59:51 »
As thread title. When driving on fairly even roads getting a knocking from rear similar to front droplinks. Hit a rut and I get a loud bang. Rear shockers are OK. Both rear springs are in one piece (changed in the last 6 months and double checked). Trailings arms are OK. No play on donuts. I`m thinking maybe rear anti-roll bar droplinks. When the front droplinks are shot more often than not no visual wear or play can be seen/felt Is this the case with the rears. Any advice guys  :-/

Omega General Help / Diff interchangeability
« on: 04 April 2009, 20:33:52 »
Are the diffs on autos with the same final drive ratio interchangeable or is it 2.5-2.5, 3.0-3.0, 2.0-2.0 etc. :question

Right, still trying to sort this noise at the rear end. Got the back up on stands, engage drive, the N/S wheel is "driving" but the O/S turns slowly and I can stop it "driving" with my hands and get no resistance. Is this normal or am I looking at a breaked diff or O/S driveshaft :-/

Omega General Help / Noise from rear of car
« on: 27 March 2009, 19:32:45 »
Posted about this before. Car passed MOT yesterday, asked examiner to doublecheck rear wheelbearings and driveshafts. No play whatsoever. When I first pull away get a knocking noise from the rear (similar to front droplink) for a few hundred metres then it disappears. When decelerating with no brake assistance get a rumbling/whining from the rear. When slowing with the brakes, sounds like a deeper rumbling/grinding. Would a rear bearing be worn and show no signs of play at the wheel? Could it be the drivegear in the rear diff? Could it be one of the driveshafts. As said there is no play either at the wheels or both ends of the driveshafts. Had the back up with the drive engaged and no noise heard. New rear discs and pads fitted last week, diff oil up to level, no visible leaks at driveshaft to diff. Has anybody got any other suggestions please :-/ :-/ :-/

Omega General Help / Droning noise from rear.
« on: 18 March 2009, 17:23:59 »
When braking it sounded as though it was coming from the front. Replaced both front wheel bearings (slight play in both). Front pads & discs OK, done about 3K. Noise still there but now sounds like coming from the rear :( Even worse when slowing down. Checked rear brakes and the discs and pads needed doing. Just done rear brake overhaul, new discs & pads, handbrake shoes OK. Checked for play in rear wheel bearings, nothing. Driveshafts turn smooth at hub and diff end. Test drive and the noise is still there. Not so much when driving but seems to make itself known moreso when slowing down. Any ideas guys :-/

Omega General Help / Siezed Spark Plug
« on: 18 March 2009, 20:07:21 »
Just done a service (oil, filters, plugs et al) plus brake work (as previous post). Could only change 3 of the 4 plugs (yes I know I should have SIX ;D ). The plug at the bulkhead is in solid. Camcover gaskets were done about 6 months ago and couldn`t shift it then so it`s had a good soak in oil :D. Anything else I can use to try and unsieze it. Was thinking maybe Plusgas :-/ any other suggestions. I`ve tried as much elbow grease as I dare for fear of snapping the damn thing. >:(
