Hi,

Been considering fitting a 7" Double DIN DVD/Bluetooth player 'XTRONS TD717' to my facelift Elite. Has anyone had any experience with this unit and what should I look out for when performing the transplant from the factory fitted CCR2006.

Many thanks - Brian

Omega General Help / Engine/gearbox 'Hunting' Elite 2.5 Auto
« on: 04 March 2010, 22:17:24 »
I run a 2000 (X Reg) 2.5 Elite Auto 4 speed Facelift.
I am experiencing what I can only describe as 'hunting' (similar to a misfire under load) when the auto box changes from 3-4 and even when in 4. This seems to be when accelerating normally at speeds between 50 and 60mph. I noticed that in the post "Gearbox ECU Update Experiences" 'Lazydocker' had posted the following experience he had which I believe was related to an ECU (V9) upgrade: -
1999 3 Litre Elite...

Updated by Kevin Wood sometime early last year (or was it longer ago than that  )

Anyway... Whole drive is a much more pleasant experience. Changes are far more positive and it doesn't hunt between 3/4 gear when cruising at 50ish as much.

Downside: When towing the van it will kick down more readily than before and hold 3rd (which is great) but is more reluctant to change back to 4th if on the slightest incline... Incidentally, if you turn the cruise off and use your foot on the pedal this is easy to overcome.

Is what I am experiencing related do you think - and how do I go about checking which version of ECU firmware I have and updating it?
Many thanks

Omega General Help / 2.5V6 Holding power when 'lifting off' the gas
« on: 22 November 2008, 17:07:43 »
Hi,

I had a good look around the forum before posting this and couldn't find any other reference to this condition. Anyhoo apologies if I missed a similar post.

My car is exhibiting a condition which may or may not be a fault symptom and I would be interested to learn if any other owner has had a similar experience.

My car is an Elite 2.5 V6 Auto 2000 X Reg

The condition is related to the rate at which the car slows down after lifting off the gas pedal.

The condition is most noticeable during urban driving and manifests itself as follows: -

When lifting off at around 50mph the car will slow quite rapidly (as expected) to 42-43mph. At this point it will hold power and speed as if the cruise control had been selected. It will however after 10 seconds or so continue to slow (albeit at a reduced rate) to around 32mph when it repeats the above cycle again. The same applies when lifting off at 40mph - i.e. slows to 32mph and then holds power and speed.

Now this can be fairly disturbing when driving around town to say nothing of the brake wear increase.  :o

My local VX man says this is normal for the electronic autobox fitted to the 2.5V6 Facelift.

My engine idle speed when stationary in 'P' or 'N' appears to be around 600** rpm however this does of course increase as expected when selecting a forward or reverse gear during parking. Curiously when selecting 'D' whilst stationary the car does seem to 'amble' forward rather than the expected 'creep'.

Other info - have recently had cam covers and gaskets/'O' rings replaced as well as breathers cleaned.

I would welcome any sound advice or comments anyone may be able to offer.  :y

** Update - Ooops! have now cleaned bi-focals   :-[ it is nearer 550 - 600

Hi,

I've been a Carlton owner for circa 17 years now and am becoming increasingly interested in buying an Omega.
Question is - which model/year/spec should I concentrate on?

I could spend £2,000 - £3,000 but need to be conscious of running costs etc......

I need it as a daily driver and cover around 9,000 miles pa.

I've included a piccy of my current Carlton that I have owned from new in 1993, so you can see I'd be looking for something that has been well cared for.
