Hi,
I had a good look around the forum before posting this and couldn't find any other reference to this condition. Anyhoo apologies if I missed a similar post.
My car is exhibiting a condition which may or may not be a fault symptom and I would be interested to learn if any other owner has had a similar experience.
My car is an Elite 2.5 V6 Auto 2000 X Reg
The condition is related to the rate at which the car slows down after lifting off the gas pedal.
The condition is most noticeable during urban driving and manifests itself as follows: -
When lifting off at around 50mph the car will slow quite rapidly (as expected) to 42-43mph. At this point it will hold power and speed as if the cruise control had been selected. It will however after 10 seconds or so continue to slow (albeit at a reduced rate) to around 32mph when it repeats the above cycle again. The same applies when lifting off at 40mph - i.e. slows to 32mph and then holds power and speed.
Now this can be fairly disturbing when driving around town to say nothing of the brake wear increase.
My local VX man says this is normal for the electronic autobox fitted to the 2.5V6 Facelift.
My engine idle speed when stationary in 'P' or 'N' appears to be
around 600** rpm however this does of course increase as expected when selecting a forward or reverse gear during parking. Curiously when selecting 'D' whilst stationary the car does seem to 'amble' forward rather than the expected 'creep'.
Other info - have recently had cam covers and gaskets/'O' rings replaced as well as breathers cleaned.
I would welcome any sound advice or comments anyone may be able to offer.
** Update - Ooops! have now cleaned bi-focals it is nearer 550 - 600
