Yeah, cheers Kev. I run some pretty special things on the 5 and as it's a hillclimber, I need everything to work from cold.

To be honest, I didn't really notice any real symptoms on the omega other than the brakes stunk and were cooked, i could feel that on the way home.

It's not going to be a huge track day regular, as i'll be putting my 5 back into action soon, but I'm going to the 'ring again in may so wanted to iron some bugs out of the omega before then.

I may fanny about with som air ducting to the fronts, as there doesn't seem to be great airflow over them, this may help. I am in need of new front pads now though, so i'll have a sniff round and see whats about.

I'll report any findings.

Omega General Help / Uprated Brakes
« on: 21 April 2008, 11:17:08 »
Morning all.

Well after my minature track day at castle coombe on Saturday, braking woes reared its ugly head. After a few laps, (where I didn't really work the brakes that hard) they were cooked. I would say they were just about to fade as I came in - they absolutly stunk.

Bearing in mind, this was in the wet, so I couldn't brake that hard and not lock up, I think it'll be shocking in the dry with some abient heat...

What pads/disks do people use? And has anyone tried braided hoses on there omega? I use them on my 5. Does EBC of Ferodo do anything for the MV6?

Thanks.

I wouldn't want to go any lower than et38. You run the risk of being very close to the coil springs after this. Go the lowest offset you can. I'm working on some et13's at the mo...:D

Omega General Help / 15" steel wheels - Such as the spare.

Morning all...

The spare wheel, 15x6.5 et33, is this the same as are on some base model omegas?

I changed one last week. Was a doddle.
I bought a pre-facelift one fron a scrappy and fitted it to my post-facelift one.

The only difference I found was that the light adjustment sensor thing (I guess to let you know if you're carrying a fat bird) couln't be used. The bracket wasn't there.

I'd imagine not all models have this facility, or in my case, i found not.

That was my next question... Where's the best place (read cheapest) to get hold of standard discs?

Is there definatly no difference between the omega range?

Evening all...
Does anyone know where the O.E disks are made, and/or if I could get hold of some front and rear disks for an MV6, that are blank. I.E haven't been drilled/tapped for our PCD?

Omega General Help / Re: Turbo/Supercharger
« on: 07 February 2008, 21:50:20 »
If you wanna go down the turbo route, speak to my mate Adam at Turbo Developments, tell him Tricky sent you, then give him a load of abuse!

Obviously, going S/C you have the advantage of a linear power delivery. The turbo will be more fun. I'd go - and am actually thinking about doing it, a big single blower. mount it at the front, behind the rad. You'd need something decent, will well spec'd housings. A large rear end to stop the whole lot choking up and a decent compressor wheel.

I'm sure i remember reading somewhere that you can only run 'gay boost' on the MV6, as an oil/water gallery is very thin on no.3? Not sure on that, my memory's not good.

Another thing would be controlling the fueling and spark. A standalone ECU would be preferable - How is the O.E unit for hacking? Anyone make a piggy back ECU for it?

Forced Induction is my rootes, I hill climb a Renault5 GT Turbo...

Right. This morning I dived into the broken bits...
How the car looked;

I'm not sure if it's luck more than judgement, but the front end seems completly fine, apart from needing a little tweek on the tracking.
On my coilovers, there is a camber adjustment, this seems to have budged, tking the majority of the impact shock, meaning the wishbone *appears* to be straight.

Luckily there was no damage to the strut;

The rear, however, doesn't seem to have faired so well!:(

This is with the car slightly jacked up;

It's well out of shape.
By my reckoning, the rear trailing arm needs to be replaced, along with the tierod, which is bent;

Luckily, the rear coilover seems to have just flexed and i've got away with it;

The only thing that is a little worrying, is that somehow, i managed to snap the rear caliper clean off its attachment lugs?!

The most upsetting (read most expensive) bit is the wheels...

 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I'm still smiling! ;D

Oh, and i've just found a place that does my wheels, in my size (17x8.5 et25). So that side is looking up. Although they're in Germany and there is no price...:(
