Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Low Beam Warning
« on: 08 May 2009, 20:28:10 »
Many thanks for the replies/suggestions. Will have a look Sunday - I'm out all day tomorrow.

Regarding brake light bulbs, although not from Vauxhall (nor Hellfrauds) they are good quality. Bought a box of 12 from local motor factor a few years ago, down to last 4, maybe past there sellby date :(

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Low Beam Warning
« on: 08 May 2009, 12:14:48 »
Hi, have owned Omega's for 8 years now, currently on my fourth. They have all been Elite's however I have never before seen the warning message 'Low Beam - Fld/Vision'.

It came up on the display last Friday when I was driving from London to Norfolk. I assume it's to do with the headlight automatic levelling, the headlights still work and no fuses have blown.

The other strange thing, which may or may not be connected, is that a couple of day's later the Brake Light warning also came up. The offside stop light wasn't working so I replaced the bulb but the warning is still there. Have checked the bulb by replacing it in the nearside and it works so the bulb is O.K.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions - relay perhaps?

Thanks, Mike

I assume you have fitted this to your Miggie if so how long did it take? and besides a lot of cussing are any special tools needed?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: which sat nav do you have?
« on: 25 February 2008, 20:17:02 »
Just bought my W reg Elite and it came fitted out with the SmartNav system incl. touch-screen link http://www.smartnav.com/satellite-navigation/gps-touch-screen.asp Only used it a couple of times so far but am well impressed. Prefer it to my Dell Axim 51v with CoPilot 7. Maybe just because the screen is closer to my ancient eyes and I can read it better  :)

Will see over the next few weeks how well it performs regarding re-routing etc due to traffic congestion on our fortnightly trips to Norfolk. Once we get past Easter all roads to Norfolk from London get really busy i.e. M11, A14, A11, A47 or M11, A11, A14, A143 or M25, A12 so will be interesting to see whether it advises any other routes.

Omega General Help / Do 2.6 & 3.2's suffer same problems as 2.5's?
« on: 31 December 2009, 17:30:07 »
Subject basically says it all but in particular I was referring to blocked breathers leading to cam cover gasket leakage. If not, do 2.6 and 3.2's suffer any other problems peculiar to those models?

Happy New Year to all  :)  :)  :)

Omega General Help / Re: Nm to lb/ft Conversion
« on: 06 March 2009, 19:09:58 »
Many thanks HerefordElite.  :y

Thought my 1.8 lbs/ft was too low as that's hardly finger tight. Guess I will also need to purchase a new torque wrench so thanks for the pointer as well.

Omega General Help / Nm to lb/ft Conversion
« on: 06 March 2009, 12:32:52 »
Often see the torque figure of 8Nm mentioned when tightening cam covers etc.

Forgive my ignorance (being an oldie)  :( but is this equivalent to approx. 1.8 lbs/ft?

If not what is the equivalent?

I'm having similar problems I think although every so often mine seems to rev and not go anywhere as if I've dipped the clutch (it's an auto) but then wham all the power comes in with a big shunt...... ouch.

Can anyone help

You should be careful of this, could very well damage the auto box oil seal.   :'(  :'(  :'(

So Questions.....

If I buy a replacement key and just swop the remote part over, then synkronize it should it work?

Is the guy on here still repairing the switches and if so how much we looking at?

See earlier in this thread and PM to Martin Imber. He fixed one of my keys a couple of months ago, excellent job.

Omega General Help / Alarm Sounds Randomly
« on: 26 April 2008, 12:14:27 »
I've had my facelift 2.5 Elite for around 3 months now and very occasionally, say once in every 25/30 starts, the alarm will go off as soon as the engine starts. I've now got used to inserting the key with the buttons facing me so that a quick press on one of the buttons cancels the alarm. But strangely, if the radio is off at the time, as soon as the alarm is cancelled it will turn itself on. Also when this happens but not every time,  the traffic master will start spouting off about the license being expired i.e. the same message as if you had pressed the traffic master button.

I don't know if it's related but again, only occasionally and not necessarily when the alarm has sounded, after switching off the engine 4 beeps will be emitted.

I have tried reprogramming the key by inserting into ignition and switching on, holding down one of the buttons, which I believe, should lock and unlock the doors to show that the reprogramming was successful. Not in my case as nothing happens.  :(

Anyone have any pointers?

Omega General Help / Electric Window Problem
« on: 11 March 2008, 18:22:48 »
Strange problem but hopefully a simple solution (if anything is ever simple on the Miggy)  ;)

The offside rear door window works fine from the rear door switch - opens and closes - and opens fine from the front drivers door switch bank but it won't close from the drivers door switch bank. I'm not too electrically minded but it suggests to me perhaps a disconnected or broken wire/connection on the switch bank.

Any thoughts/comments appreciated before I start hacking about to repair/replace it in case the problem may lie elsewhere.

Thanks, Mike

Omega General Help / Re: new owner...couple of issues
« on: 19 February 2008, 19:30:49 »
Hi & welcome, like P. Mitchell I'm also new here. Re pulsing under heavy-ish braking wouldn't that just be the brake anti-lock mechanism kicking in?

Omega General Help / Clattery when cold (the engine that is)
« on: 18 February 2008, 17:28:41 »
Hi all, My first post here - just bought a 2.5 facelift Elite to replace my '98 Elite which had developed a gearbox fault (was going to be too expensive to repair). Anyway, when I went to purchase the car it looked and sounded great and drove beautifully but when I started it the next morning - for those old enough to remember - it sounded as though the tappets needed adjusting. A job which I used to do fairly regularly a few years ago when I was a Triumph 2500 owner. After it's warmed up a little - say within the first 1 to 2 miles all is quiet again. It's almost as if the oil isn't reaching the parts it needs to quickly enough.

The car is just coming up to 70,000 mls. It had it's last service at 64,500 mls and the cam belt (complete kit) and water pump were changed at 58,000 mls. I guess another oil change would not go amiss to see if that helps but any other suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks, Mike

Omega General Help / Re: Oily sludge in coolant expansion tank
« on: 18 February 2008, 18:52:04 »
Not to worry you too much but when my oil cooler went last year - when I was on holiday - it cost me £1,400  :'( from a Vauxhall main dealer to get it repaired, all the sludge cleaned out, new radiator etc.

If I hadn't been on holiday and desperate for the car (and thinking more clearly) I would have scrapped the car and spent the money on another.  >:(  >:(

Omega General Help / Re: Cruise Control
« on: 18 February 2008, 19:10:14 »
Quote
The top nearer one (I think) (has a lump that sticks out slightly) sets the cruise at whatever speed you're at (& also increases your speed slightly if you press when in cruise).
The rear one (with a recess) will bring you back to the speed last set with the above button (or slow you down slightly when cruise is set.
  :-?

The top further one has the 'lump' and does exactly as Bo Bo described. Each tap of the button increase the speed by, I believe, 1.6mph or hold down for continuous acceleration.

The top button closest to you does the reverse i.e each tap reduces speed by 1.6mph  or hold down for continuous deceleration or if, for example you have set cruise control at 60mph and then had to use the brake pedal then again, as Bo Bo stated, a tap on this button will bring your speed back up to what you had previously set i.e. 60 mph.
