Omega General Help / Vacuum Hose Plumbing diagram
« on: 03 July 2017, 22:38:50 »
I seem to have quite a few unattached vacuum hoses/pipes floating around in my engine bay. The car has been off the road for a couple of years following a Head Gasket replacement, but now finances are starting to pick up, I want to get the old girl back on the road, and I'm sure that these little pipes must do something!
The beast is a 2002 2.2 Estate Auto.
Mr Haynes has only covered Omegas up to the 2 litre models, and they don't go into much detail about the pipework, so if anybody knows what should go where, I would be much obliged

Omega General Help / Re: New Keys (and brain) please!

Thanks Guys for the suggestions. I think that I'll go down the "Second Hand Key, Lock and ECU route" from eBay. Once again, I am indebted to the Forum for all the help and advice.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. What makes me want to avoid the main dealer route, is that they quoted £105 just for the key, then added £65 for the 1hour labour to programme it, and then added vat onto the whole lot.
On the Internet, there is a firm advertising to come out to the car, cut and programme the key all for £60-£70, but they only operate within the M25, which I'm not.
It's almost cheaper to get another Omega!

Omega General Help / New Keys (and brain) please!
« on: 13 December 2015, 11:49:54 »
Does anybody know where I can get replacement ignition keys for my Omega in the Crawley area? Vauxhall quoted approx £200 for a new one, which is a but steep, and there are a few guys advertising replacement key service within the M25, but I can't seem to locate anybody for my area.
My original set of keys went off with the scrapper when they took away my wife's crunched Corsa, and the Corsa keys which I still have are no good to me with the Omega....Doh!
I don't have a Vauxhall Car Pass with my Omega, but it is currently unlocked but unstartable.
Any suggestions for the complete berk?

General Car Chat / Re: Favourite car you've owned
« on: 27 February 2012, 00:08:01 »
Apart from my current miggy, and the one previous to the one I've got now, I have to say that my most favourite motor was a 1978 VW Scirocco. It went like stink, looked cool, and was a quality bit of german engineering. Only problem was, by the time I had sold it, it had had a new engine, new gearbox, complete new braking system, new front wings, new suspension and ...oh yes a new back end after some twit slammed into the back of it two days after I bought it.
The most fun car was a 1966 Triumph Vitesse Convertable. It was a heap, it smelt of damp carpet, the engine noise was intrusive, you couldn't lock it (no point - a Stanley knife through the roof gives you access) and it rattled so much that the wing mirrors - yes mirrors actually bolted to the front wings - were useless. but my word, it was truly great fun to drive, and the Triumph fraternity was like a huge extended family. We seemed to generate a common dislike to MG owners, especially MGBs which were basically a two seater Marina.
The honour of being my worst car is jointly held by two hideous examples of 1970's manufacturing disasters. The first was a Morris Ital which I had for about ten days, It was a sort of off white/cream colour. I never could be certain what colour it was supposed to be, but thankfully it died before I had driven it too far, so the neighbours never actually got used to it being parked in our street, which was a relief to my credibility. Unfortunately the other car lasted much longer, and I was spotted  quite regularly sitting in it. and that ladies and gentlemen was the car of the year 1975 (Which means that it was definately rubbish) a 1978 Chrysler Alpine Hatchback. It was red with a cream vinyl roof, had white fibreglass bumpers, electric windows and little wipers on the headlights. It was big, uncomfortable, hard to drive, thirsty, definately uncool and was a pig to get spares for, as Chrysler UK was on the brink of going bust at the time and it was made from whatever parts were lying around in the factory.
I remember going to my local spares factor and asking for a set of points and a rotor arm (Remember those?), and I had to take in the old parts so they could identify what sort of distributor was fitted to my particular car - no looking up the chassis number with that car!
On the face of it, I have always had an affinity for Vauxhalls, The first car I ever drove was a Vauxhall Velox, my first ever car was a 1966 HA Viva. and since then, I've had Five Cavaliers and two Omegas, and my wife drives a Corsa.

Sorry that I've gone on for so long, I got a bit carried away with nostalgia. - This report is also available in Hardback from all good bookshops!

Omega General Help / Sudden drop in Revs
« on: 14 October 2011, 08:23:56 »
Having persuaded a work collegue to get himself an Omega, I now need advice to pass on to him about a fault which has developed in his 2.2 litre Deisel Engined Facelift CDX Saloon (Manual).

When he drives along, the Engine Management light comes on and his engine revs drop, the engine doesn't cut out, but it does "hunt" for a while, then the light goes out and he gets full power again. Any Ideas where he should be looking?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: headlights
« on: 03 October 2010, 20:58:53 »
Page 123 of the Omega Handbook, gives information about this lever: It's for use when driving on the continent!
Left Hand Drive vehicles: Left Hand Headlamp lever should be moved down and the Right hand headlamp lever should be moved up.
and the opposite settings for Right Hand Drive vehicles (I assume that means vehicles driving on the right hand side of the road)
It saves you having to buy those beam deflectors on the ferry (which you forget to take off when putting the car through the MOT - and it still passes!)

Omega General Help / Re: spark plug oil bath
« on: 18 September 2011, 19:34:23 »
Thanks Guys, I have drained the oil out given it a good clean up, recharged the battery and managed to get it going. Any idea how difficult it is to replace camcover gasket. Will it be like the rocker cover gasket on engines of old? Are there any snags im likely to run into? The coil pack seems working, phew!

Omega General Help / spark plug oil bath
« on: 18 September 2011, 16:21:00 »
its diagnostic time again. my omega wouldnt start this morning plenty of juice, plenty of fuel just wouldnt fire up. there was a smell of petrol so i assumed i flooded the engine with fuel, however when i came to remove the spark plugs all 4 plugs were submerged in yurky black engine oil. i syringed out the oil but found when i removed the plugs they to were covered in oil, there didnt seem to be any oil on the top of the pistons so the oil on the plugs may have been from any residue in the plug pots which had dripped down possibly. there is no water in the sump and no oil in the coolant HELP  :'(

Many Thanks to all of you who gave me help in this quest, my mate (Who went out and bought an Omega because he loved my one) now has his handbook, and delighted he is too! He was well impressed with the responses which we had, and will be registering with OOF very soon.
Many Thanks again,

Omega General Help / Omega Users Handbook

Does anybody know where I can download a Handbook for an Omega? Vauxhall's website allows for downloading handbooks for the current range, but not for deleted models.

Omega General Help / Re: Coolant Level Warning
« on: 01 August 2011, 14:15:52 »
Thanks Guys, Methinks that I'll get a new header tank from Vauxhall. I get the impression that to get one from the breakers is likely to be a false economy. Again, Thanks for your invaluable words of wisdom- it makes decisions like these so much easier.

Omega General Help / Coolant Level Warning
« on: 27 July 2011, 11:56:53 »
This is probably going to be one of those problems which you lot are going to look at and say "That's obvious!", but it's a niggling little thing which is driving me batty. I have a coolant level warning come up on my display, but here'e the rub - The resevoir is full, and after 1000+miles I haven't had to put a drop of water into the system. The engine oil isn't creamy, and the water in the resevoir is the normal colour, so I don't suspect Oil/Water contamination.
Could it be a faulty sensor? if so where is it? and just how does the system work out if the coolant is low? (or not)
