Omega General Help / Re: tow bar!
« on: 25 June 2010, 20:44:41 »
I bought a towbar of the famous auction site, and fitted it today.  It was second hand - luckily I found the fitting instructions on the web.  I have not done the electrics but the mechanical part fitted in two hours.  There are no holes but dimples where they need to be drilled.  I would say though some of the dimples were hard to locate under the mastik.  Still easy enough.

Not sure if I'm seeing things, but Cam No3 looks as if the large washer on the sprocket is not central with its bolt, I'm sure that would make the sprocket run on an eccentric causing the rubbing.  Still could just be my eyes, but No4 is not like it.

Omega General Help / Re: OOps, glue needed ...............
« on: 23 June 2010, 21:34:00 »
I also broke this part on my V6 when I did my head job.  I used No More Nails.  I cleaned the large recessed part where the pipe extrudes from with a bit of carb cleaner (get rid of dirt and oil) then used a nail considerably longer than the broken off part of the pipe, used it to position the broken part back onto the reservior, fulled the recessed part with the No More Nails to about half way (enough to let the vac pipe be pushed back on, left it overnight so the skin went hard, and then baked it at about 100DegC in the oven for a couple of hours to set the whole thing hard.  The problem you will have is if you just use a normal style glue it will just break off again.  I tried this first!!  Mine is on the car and working fine.

If you still have the original crank sensor with dodgy covering, I'd try that to see if that one still works.

I bought 4 new seals when I did my head gaskets, they were only £2 each from my local dealer.

Omega General Help / Re: rear drivrs seat plastic
« on: 12 June 2010, 11:33:59 »
Mines a mini facelift (2000 year) but on mine there are two screws at the bottom just where it starts to curl underneath a bit - they are right at the outside edges, unscrew these and then (mine) just drops down as the top is held with plastic hooks that are part of the backing.  Hope this helps.  Obviously it is better to wind the seat fully forward, but I guess you cant as it's this thats broken.  Push the seat forward though to give you more room sitting behind.  Hope this helps.  Remember mine is a mini facelift model.

Omega General Help / Re: caravan advice....no i am not boring.
« on: 12 June 2010, 20:51:01 »
Hi All.  Quite a few replies to this one.  It has been mentioned earlier but I feel it needs adding to.  One of the important weights is the cars kerbweight, this is not the towing weight.  What ever caravan you buy must not exceed the cars kerbweight.  As you will be a new tow-er the general rule is an 85% match, ie if your car has a kerbweight of 1000kg, then the caravan should be around 850kg.  Also the towbar maximum load (usually approx 75kg) must not be exceeded, even if the caravan weights suggest the caravan can have a higher figure the car towbar figure is the one you must go for.  Caravan hitch weights are normally about 7% of its MTPLM (or MGW for older caravans).  The caravans 85% match refers to the MTPLM figure.  It is a bit of a mine field so you do need to check fully.  Also you might want to check the rules regarding extension mirrors.  In brief:  Do not exceed your cars Kerbweight - this is not the towing limit figure. Do not exceed the towbar limit and MTPLM (MGW) is the maximum weight of the fully loaded caravan.  Check out the Caravan club website - it's all there.

Although you might have a problem getting it off the adjuster bar.  I need to do this on mine, and am considering getting the entire link i.e. inner and outer and adjuster bar in one package!

Omega General Help / Re: Can you increase the V6 tickover?
« on: 28 May 2010, 22:21:35 »
Mine actually ticks over at 500rpm and it's a little bit lumpy, I am confident that it would not stall at that level but it's a bit sweeter at 650rpm, plus I've never had a car with such a low tickover.

Omega General Help / Can you increase the V6 tickover?
« on: 28 May 2010, 21:18:46 »
Hi there.  I am now finally driving my car having completely redone the top end.  It drives lovely, although needs tracking and wheel balancing doing.  What I would like to know is can the tickover be adjusted from the standard 500 -550 rpm to something like 650 - 700 rpm?  Without reprogramming the ECU?  Thanks

Omega General Help / Re: Leak from new cam cover seal
« on: 23 May 2010, 18:42:20 »
Think I might know where Lincsrobert got is left and right banks mixed up - possibly!  My haynes manual says that the bank on the right as you look from the front of the car is actually the left, and does have the loom over the top.  But when I took the 8 cam caps off the camshafts themselves, the ones from the 'left' bank (ie right of engine) where actually marke as right! and the left 8 as left!  which is correct?  I noticed this as I have just put all this back together on mine and have had to re-use my cam cover seals with RTV compound, so guess we'll see how long they last!  Ran out of money - but needed the car!

Hi All
Thanks for all your replies.  It was the crankshaft sensor.  I had not realised I had disconnected it, but found the two connectors completely apart when I looked up the back of the engine from underneath.  Anyway all is good now.  All I have to do is get all the oily prints off the wings!! and clean off the spilt oil from the previous camshaft cover leakage.  Previous owner!  PS What should these tick over at? mine is approx 500rpm according to tacho.

Omega General Help / Omega not starting
« on: 22 May 2010, 21:51:40 »
Hi there.  I have been repairing my new omega and have now got to the stage of trying to start it.  Quickly - what it's doing is turning over ok, but there is no fuel getting up to the engine.  I have hot wired the pump, but still the car wont start.  Tomorrow I am going to check for a spark etc.  All of the sensors are connected correctly (I think) and all the air hoses are also connected up ok.  I am guessing there is an immobiliser problem as the battery was off for a couple of weeks.  Although the stereo works ok, which I believe is part of the immob system.  Just hoping maybe there is something you guys and gals can tell me about that I can check, or I have missed, to help me start the beast.  PLEASE!!!
