Is the boot release part of the central locking unit? Just wondering if you can swap the later style release for the early one. It is a pain in the bum having to remove the key all the time.
Not necessary http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90516.0
Be aware, there are some annoying side effects of that bootmod.  Courtesy lights staying on for 10s, and the risk the boot is easily accidentally opened in motion

The Boot Mod Relay (fitted to Police) gets around the Courtesy Light problem.

That's exactly what I want to do with mine!!  ;D

I did consider adapting the system used on the Vectra C estate, which opens and closes the tailgate using electronic rams, but it's a hell of a lot of work, and mightily expensive too!  :-\

I don't think so. If you can get one with the same 2 ident letters then maybe.

Interesting. Mine's on a 51 plate but maybe a got a later central locking controller?
Thought it came in MY2002. Is the 9th digit of your VIN a 1 or a 2?

According to the logbook the VIN is 17 alphanumerics and the 9th is a 9! Last character is a 2.

No it doesn't.

I'm thinking of using the 3 button key from a saloon.  I'd probably need the central locking / alarm ecu to go with it, and then have them tech 2'd to my car.

Then use the saloon boot release output to pop the tailgate lock and also activate a small actuator ram to push the tailgate out just far enough so that the standard rams take over and raise it.

Obviously the standard estate boot release is a manually operated push button which is connected by a rod to the catch, so this would also need modifying to with some form of solenoid.

Don't think any of this is impossible, and is basically what the fella in the youtube links has done...  :-\
