« on: 17 April 2012, 21:19:38 »

This may be a silly question I am good at these  :D
I was reading the how to section earlier and noticed hillpers boot release mod and it mentions a boot release for an estate is this something that is possible to do or have I miss read it .  I was thinking it may be handy to be able to relaease the tailgate sometimes

Does the estate not have a boot button? The saloon doesn't which is why it needs the release.

Sallons have a boot release button (well facelift do not sure fore prefacelift).
But the button is useless when the car is turned on that why the boot mod is mentioned

Not much you can do on an estate without buying an opener, which will be expensive and bulky

Oh, you mean the one on the dash. I meant the button on the boot!

I have a Facelift and it works with the engine on too! Have to wait a second or two, mind. Quicker on the blipper!

2002+ Saloons have a modified ECU that allows boot to be opened whether engine on or off, by pressing and holding interior release button.
2000/1 Saloons, the boot can only be opened with key out of ignition, but opens instantly on the press.

My 2000 X plate has presumably been modified. One brief touch of the release button on the dash (often with my left knee) and it pops open.Doesnt matter if car is stopped, moving, engine running, keys in/out of ignition, whatever. Its handy in some ways and a bit of a nuisance in others.

Is the boot release part of the central locking unit? Just wondering if you can swap the later style release for the early one. It is a pain in the bum having to remove the key all the time.

Thought it came in MY2002. Is the 9th digit of your VIN a 1 or a 2?

Be aware, there are some annoying side effects of that bootmod.  Courtesy lights staying on for 10s, and the risk the boot is easily accidentally opened in motion

Which is why I asked if you can fit the later module without to much hassle
