Depends if you use it as an every day car, Entwoods install was around that cost, he has more than paid it back.
 ....

We'll wait for Mr Opti to confirm  ;) but I doubt many 10 yr old 5 liter Mercs are bought to be used as everyday transport.

Nige's gassed Omega is his only car, so will obviously clock the miles up & go towards justifying his gas install

Agreed. It would be used as a 'weekend toy'

I doubt that I would add more than 2-3000 miles a year to the mileage, so the cost of petrol shouldn't be a problem.

As a sad old bastard the cost of insurance shouldn't be too much of a problem either. :y

However, parts are bound to be expensive, and any one major problem would probably result in a trip to the crusher.

Hmmm......heart says yes......head says no.

Merc main dealer parts are cheaper than you'd think especially on older stuff :y

I had a Merc about 3 years ago and was surprised to find that parts generally werent as expensive as I thought they would be.
The owners forum is one of the better ones ime,and can provide a lot of info on less expensive ways to sort problems, similar to OOF.

The killer seems to be their diagnostic and labour rates :-\

Most firms have a discounted parts facility for older models, Mercedes consumables have always been on a par with Vauxhall :y

There are members of the forum who have the diagnostic gear etc. with much cheaper rates than dealers, same as OOF. :y

Even professional install say £2k, on £4k Merc, means you get a £60k car which is quite cheap to run :)

......... and £2k is 200 tanks of fuel. That's a lot of miles in a ''boy's toy'' before you even begin to pay back the cost of the install.  ;)  ;)

200 Tanks i wish i could buy it from the same place as you lol

I agree with the others about Merc parts.  :)

I've found them to be very reasonably priced compared to Vauxhall and the two Merc dealers that I have used have been very helpful!  :y
