urgent ... oil filter canaster removal
« on: 22 February 2014, 15:06:28 »

Help  :-[

I'm in the middle off doing the oil cooler / cam covers / oil & coolant change.
I've got the cap off and the old paper filter out.
Now trying to get the holder off so I can undo the oil cooler pipes

What size allen key do I need to remove the holder ?

Can't seem to find the right one  :-[

I'm trying to get the paper filter housing off Jimbob so I can get better access to the 2 pipes that come down from the oil cooler  :)

The cap is off and the paper filter is removed ........... the rest of the holder looks like it comes away from the block after the mystery allen key is removed

In the guide Convert your oil filter, canister to Spin on it says 27mm socket OR 12mm Allen key (depending on what parts where available on the day your engine was screwed together)

Ahhh, dont think you should be removing anything else then, just 19mm crows foot for the pipes, or am I still missing the point completely?

He needs to take the oil filter house off to access the 19mm oil cooler to block unions

So far he has only removed the cap to get the paper element out :y

Okay, i'll admit it ............. i'm a cock  ::) ;D ;D ;D

Right, next (hopefully not too daft) question  ;D

The oil cooler is out but I can't see any obvious place were it has been leaking  :-\

In fact, it looks just the same as the known good one that i'm about to fit off the breaker.

I'm this far so its going to get done anyway BUT is they anywhere else that oil can get into the coolant ?

Normally on the very top plate of the cooler radiator, some minor rusting along the sides where its been joined ?

Found on my old "R " reg that the cooler plate was pretty sound as was the actual coler radiator, but the sealant had all but perished and was certainly the cause of the weep.

Make sure that both surfaces are clean before apply the grey goo,and be very very carefull with the fine threads on the banjo bolts so as not to cross them..finger tightening only until you are totally certain they have gone in straight
