its a plane

It's a plane that was built for a specific purpose (hence has earned it's place in the history books) and showed the true brilliance of British Engineering. It also spearheaded the development of certain other planes that also now have a place in history.

Does he mean TSR-2 or VUlcan?

Exactly the reason why the Vulcan went out of service when ICBMs appeared. It had no job to do. And why that lumbering old crate from the same era the B52 lives on!

A quote from Sir Sydney Camm :

"All modern aircraft have four dimensions: span, length, height and politics. TSR.2 simply got the first three right."
