So realistically, my mate over the road should be around the same as me then?

Surly our apartment aint worth as much as an house?

Difficult to say with flats -- values are silly compared to houses ---- new 2 bed flats on some developments here are going for around £300k, while a 2 bed house, new build, is around £170k ... crazy!!!  But ... if it's an older flat it should be worth less than a similar sized house nearby.

If your mate lives alone or says he does to council then he will also get a reduction for single occupancy

think i pay £160 per month (over 10 months), seems a lot to have my bins emptied once a fornight....

Just what i was thinking but i think its for Emergency services aswell ?
When we went to fornightly collections, I asked what this paid for. Miss Bimbo came back with:

Police (our station in town is part time - do I get discount)
Road repairs (ours is not adopted yet - do I get discount)
Verge grass cutting (I cut verge outside my house - do I get discount)
Library (Don't use it - do I get discount)

In the end, she agreed that I just had a very expensive rubbish collection...
What they dont tell you is that 25% of council tax goes to pay for the pensions of council employees, and thats before you start taking wages into account. >:(

Be wary tho -- much of what he says is true -- some of it is crap!  Always remember, you are asking for a review -- a review can go up as well as down ! (It has happened).

Using the Nationwide index doesn't give you a true 1991 value --- this takes figures from Nationwide morgtage lending and is spread as an average across houses of all types, flats and bungalows --- I tried it with mine -- putting the same figures into Nationwide and then into Halifax gives wildly different values in 1991.

If i was paying it i would refuse now, they have not bothered to plough a single road in Brackley.

Back to the list...

Verge Grass cutting? we don't have one!

A bargain at £194 a month here, and we don't even get street lights for that. Bet the council offices are real swanky though. >:(
