Above 27mph, a modern diesel is better in every way, including ecologically-especially if you take into account, actual fuel used, usable life before becoming uneconomical to repair and the huge amount of mercury etc (transported halfway around the world during manufacture) used in construction etc etc etc.

I don't know so much. :-/ Diesels suffer just as badly from urban driving as petrol cars, and at least a Prius is quiet. Eerily so at times. ;)

Kevin

Ok 27mph is maybe not the threshold....but what is the point of a Pruis on the motorway?  Most diesels will crucify the economy of it.
Seems daft to me that you get C-charge free in Prius but not in an 60-80mpg diesel Panda (I had one and regularly got in the 70s).

There is every point, it gets me - and many others no doubt - from A to B and as far as I'm concerned, CTP, fuel economy doesn't enter into it.
While most small diesel cars are busy 'crucifying' the Prius on the fuel economy front with the more expensive fuel of course -  you got economy in the 70's I get 60 mpg in the summer, does it really matter - they are however also putting out NOx and small particulate matter at the roadside.

I can also assure you that the difference between the Prius driven over distance and a small diesel car such as the Panda would be quite obvious to those unfortunates who were obliged to suffer with the Panda - but perhaps that's an unfair comment as I haven't has occasion to be driven in one so can't really justify my comments.

HTH :y :y

I've been in a few Priuseseses and owned a diesel Panda and agree the Prius is better on a run.

As said before-not a hit on you, but at the perception of the Prius as being the godly halo car that is the ANSWER to climate change-it is not, if you take into account the whole picture, just in the same way that electric cars are not "zero emission"-they run on electric, mostly supplied by burning fossil fuels.

But looking at it another way, the Prius has many nice attributes and is a damn sight cleaner than most cars-and if you like it, great  :y

My argument is not against you, it is against the Pious Prius lot-especially the token gesture 27mph, heat the house to 80 degrees, fly long haul several times a year, eat mostly flown in foods lot  ;)

I would have a Focus Econetic or something similar-less oh so holy shouty, much better to drive and similar real-life overal environmental impact.

Thank you CTP I know that you weren't having a go at me, I enjoy a discussion where all points of view come into play.

The only thing I don't understand is HTMIC as I can't find it on Google ;D ;D
